Corsair Obsidian Range: 800D, 700D and 650D

I think this is the case that I will be buying in the next month or so, based on my rabblings in this thread:

http://www.avforums.com/forums/cases...sair-800d.html

The 700D in stock at Scan, £189:

Scan.co.uk: CC700D - Corsair Obsidian Series 700D, Black, Full Tower Case, 3 x 140mm fans, w/o PSU

And there is a proper review of the 700D, rather than it based on the 800D, here:

Video review here:

PC Perspective - Corsair Obsidian 700D Chassis Video Review

This is there 800D review, which shows a build in place and the cable management at work (the 700D has the same sized area and the same access holes, and I think a larger CPU heatsink access panel)

Just to stop you talking to yourself

Both the 700D and 800D are very nice looking cases just not at all cheap!

Lol! Aye, but in comparison, they are not that bad - but then I am trying to justify to myself that they are not

Disapointed in the 700D being only £20 different though. I would have liked slightly smaller dimensions while keeping the design of the case and it being £140- £150.

Maybe a 600D is in the wings?

Got a 3 way build job in the summer - new guts for one PC, old guts going to PC 'B', 'B' guts going into a new case ('C') for smaller children which will pay for most of it. Still need a new desk though

Anyone who knows of a 75cm wide simple (no top no bottom shelves) desk with a keyboard tray, please let me know!

Ikea is very good for odd , inventive Furniture .. even Pc world have some end of line Desks sometimes, some are crap build some are not bad ,worth a look..

Love the Cable idea on that case , Coolermaster did an updated Se case of mine that did that but not as many,
it will last you many builds, Dear but you will save cash in the long run due to not Buying new cases ..

This is my point - my old Antec P180 was £120? quid when I bought it more than 4 years ago and has lasted me that long. Now with all the innovations that people have made in case management and cooling does it look very old.

This when I get it, will last me through an i7 build I will upgrade to in the new year and i8, i9 and i10 builds I subsequently make over the next 5 years or so.

My only problem is a desk and how the bloody hell I will carry it to LAN sessions.

All of us have other halves, some of us have kids. Can you sit on your PC for upwards of 24 to 28 hrs over a Friday to Sunday? I dont think so.

We escape to a LAN session then only have the occasional call to put up with, and revel in a room full of to equipment sweaty blokes drinking beer, smalk talking and farting.

Hey man,

Been looking into this case myself for a new watercooled rig.

Anyone here know if the bottom disk cage is removable? Was thinking of adding another rad down there.

(Removable without having to bring out a drill and a Dremel!)

Cheers,

Bob

That's great news.

Saw the nightmare of a job some people did removing the disk cage on the 800D. Drilling and Dremel-ing isn't something I wanna do to a £200 case.

So with the 700D, I can undo some thumb screws, and remove the disk cage in the bottom section cause in all the photos Ive seen, it looks rivetted on..... any owners out there confirm???

Estimated to be around the 110/120 mark (exchange rate dependent)

I do like the look of it though

Yep, seen that - I am settled on the 700D now though, hoping to pick one up in September.

I think they have missed a trick with their designs though - this is all with the benefit of hindsight obviously, but I would have released the 700D as a revised and smaller dimensioned 800D - I dont like the 600T at all, other than the fact it has the excellent insides of its big brothers and they have added a meshed front.

I quite like it, it's a bit better price wise as well but to me still stupidly expensive for a case

A friend yesterday reminded me I've even posted a press release on it: Corsair Launches Graphite Series 600TMid-Tower Computer Case

I must have been asleep that day

Look forward to seeing you re-build into the 700D and what you think of it

The 700D has dropped massively in price. I was just about to post that when I checked last week it had fallen to £162, which was in my predicted price point above and something I was happy to pay.

I just checked a minute ago on Scan, and its £152!

If I hadnt paid for my holiday in this months wages, and using next months to go away on, I would have added it to my cart before I finished typing this up.

Bound to go back to £160+ by Septembers pay day...

Its nearly my birthday, so I thought I would tell anyone that feels like it that the 700D is now an outrageous £146 @ Scan and Overclockers.

Just send it to:

Maybe it'll be on their Today Only sometime soon then.

Sod's law says it'll keep dropping until you're ready to buy it.

You'll fold soon

That looks like a really good case. Anyone know how that compares to Antec 1200?

Scanshot yesterday gives it a £141 price tag.

Poised, to answer your question, it depends on your requirements and tastes - I know thats not really a good answer, but there are so many factors to counter into a descision one way or another.

Ignoring both the 700D and the Antec 1200 for a moment, I normally look at the following, which is a very long process as I like to think that a choice I made in the case department will last me many years, and far outweigh any internal upgrades. For instance, my P180 is now 4 years old and has been through countless upgrades - no component part inside is the same as it was when I bought it (I dont even use the internal Antec fans). The case however has lasted through multiple LAN sessions and being dragged about and opened to tinker with etc, so was well worth its £110+ price tag at the time.

So, my personal criteria is (in no paricular order):

Build Quality: This is quite an in depth catergory, as I take in thermal factors (reading reviews etc) on layouts of internal fans and grills as well as spaces for other fans. Metals as well - I prefer the steel over plastic look. Internally, cable management is a big thing for me, and also for those that like to tinker, does it have a CPU heatsink access area (something the Antec 1200 does not?) for those that want to upgrade heatsinks to ones that require a backplate (like my Titan Fenrir).

Looks: I am as shallow as the next man and this is a big thing to me. I prefer the plain look. When I was younger it was all fans and lighting, now I prefer the minimilist look (One reason I was not 100% on the 800D was the side window) and although most places where I like to work are cluttered, my PC internals I prefer to be as tidy as possible to help air flow.

I have been looking for ages for a case, probably going on at least since before christmas, and have the 700D in my minds eye. If I stopped buying other gadgets (iPad and 5870 amongst other stuff) long enough, I would have had it already.

I dont think wanting a case to look good is shallow at all. It's the most personal part of a computer in that you have to stare at it every day.
