Re: Free delivery from SCAN computers for AVForums members

never works for me, always get delivery applied.
followed the instructions very carefully on several systems, and had messages with scan but to no avail.
Shame as ive used scan in the past, but had to go to Ebuyer who were cheaper and provided free and quick delivery. Items well packaged and delivered in 2 days.

Re: Free delivery from SCAN computers for AVForums members

always works for me

I open the Scan website in another tab first and login with my account details
THEN open the link on the AVForums to Scan in another tab - that ensures you are already logged in for the offer to apply

p.s. - Thanks AVForums & Scan

That's a great shame as i believe it was £20 before. I have used it myself a couple of times, maybe they were losing money on the lower value orders. The recession has started biting on AVForums someone call the BBC

Re: Free delivery from SCAN computers for AVForums members

Hmmm!

Just put an order for

Logitech G9 Laser Gaming Mouse, 1 £27.99
----------------------------------------------------------
Nett total £27.99
Carriage £0.00
VAT £4.20
Total £32.19

Whats going on?

Oh well - I'm happy especially a G9 for that price (I know the G9x replaces it, but have you seen the price of them - Today only special.

Exactly.

I was going to buy some blank dual layer DVDs and thought I was going mad when even after logging in the delivery charge was still there, despite the amount in the basket being £21 + vat.

Re: Free delivery from SCAN computers for AVForums members

Well I bought Windows 7 from them and it only came to £72 (ex VAT) so they were charging £16 delivery, thankfully I remembered a cable I needed as well which brought the total to £76 ex VAT so I got the £16 taken off. Should be here tomorrow all going well!

Maybe the title could be changed to reflect the fact that AVForum members in N.Ireland have to pay P&P..........

Bribrian, I am in NI and I spent over £75 (ex VAT) and got free delivery.

Are you sure you have linked your account on SCAN to your AV Forum account before ordering?

You must have been lucky, even the Scan rep on here confirmed that there's no free delivery to N.Ireland...

Lucky or not, I saved about £18 on delivery charges! And Windows 7 only took 18 minutes for me to fresh install. It's been a good day all round!

Yes, the likes of Amazon, HMV, Play, Overclockers, and in the past, Scan, get a lot of casual orders from me.

Something gets posted here, or I see something when browsing. Before that, I hadn't even considered buying one of those. But I see it, think great price, no P&P and just hit buy.

I buy so much more from Amazon now that they have dropped the free postage qualification from £15 to £5. Before I would see something for £12 and not buy it because I didn't want to pay the p&p or couldn't think of anything I wanted to top up the value. Now I just click buy without thinking.

Over the post few months I've made a lot of impulse purchases from Scan. Tried another a couple of days ago and aborted when I spotted the p&p.

I can understand Scan's position, but since I can still get free P&P from OcUK I won't be buying from Scan anymore.

Cheers,

Nigel

So why Hexus and not AVF?

[Edit] - Just checked and Hexus members do indded still get free next day courier delivery Monday to Friday, with 20+ posts.

Naughty that AVF members seem to have been singled out for this horrendous hike in the minimum amount to qualify for free P&P....

Thumbs down my time with Scan computers for near 20 years

where do i strart,
im 39 year old and been using and fixing computers since i was about 12.
found scan computers in about 1992, used them since for parts.

seemed about every 3 out 5 items would be faulty and need returning, so i was back a forth to this shop thats 7 mile from me. seemed no other place to try and they replaced them no probs.
Anyhow latelly they seem to have changed, customer service is a total joke, the staff on the other end of the phones, sound like children with issues, when its you ringing with the issues.

my story
Bought two Apple ipod touchs for £180 each in june 2009

took one back about 8 week ago, showed them the fault that the light was leaking from the screen were it met the case.
5 weeks after no mail or phone call about my ipod , i email them on a sunday night, at 9 am monday morning i get a email saying your ipod as been repearied and sent back to us from apple.

4 day after i manage to arrange a lift over to scan computers to get my daughters ipod, also why im there i purchase two hard drives, and pick up the ipod..
i get home..

I take ipod out of bag and switch it on, it as the same Fault...
I ring scan computers and they say "your ipod was not faulty apple said so and sent it us back with upgraded firmware" thats the first time im told by scan it wasnt faulty... errrrm i can cleary see the fault
The kid on the phone from scan seemed to want to argue with me and not get this problem sorted.

Now then , i got in touch with apple and they did not recieve my ipod from scan at all..
Scan playing there usually palm people of games, they have made there money now over the years being the only parts shop in bolton.
i could write a massive list of returned items to scan... but i wont
i built a lot of computers in the past years for friends and others..
i stopped doing this, because i was accused of making rubbish, because of *text removed by mod*

*Text removed by mod* i know what im talking about..
i remember when scan computers use to chip ps1's.. back when they was a little shop in the middle of know where.. *Text removed by mod*...

i still have the ipod, yes i know i could send it direct to apple. i prob will before the 12 month warrent ends..
but scan computers, ill catch a train to manchester before ever going there again and i used this place for near 20 years...

bye bye scan computers, *Text removed by mod*
i think Scan lied about my ipod it never left a shelf untill me email..

Stay Away From SCAN COMPUTERS.. dont be fooled by the fancy web site and shop.. and there scansure service,*Text removed by mod*
hope you like this "Shelly,,Ramilla"(management).. your staff are rubbish...
wont be seeing you again.

Admins : sorry this is my first post and its negative one.. i promise i will use the site more now on and post in the other sections also , i do have a yam home cinema and a sony Z5500, so i do have other things to post about, not just this shop.

sorry admins,mods..
i know the score i do run a forum myself..
sorry..

Can't claim to have used Scan's Customer Service so no comment on that.

But I have bought quite a bit from them (probably not as much as you) and it has been at a great price, free delivery and very qyuick service - my last order was quite late in the working day but still managed to get it to me the next morning (270 miles away) with free delivery.

The reason I can't comment on their customer service is that I have never had an item go wrong.

I can't see how the 3rd party products being sold by Scan can be any more prone to failure as the same ones being sold elsewhere. A Samsung disk drive is a Samsung disk drive whoever sells it. I can't imagine for a minute that the ones that Scan sell are somehow more inferior and therefore, more likely to be faulty.

I agree that the iPod treatment doesn't sound good though. Not sure whether they did it deliberately or just forgot it and made up stuff to hide their embarrassment - either way not good though. But personally I would deal with Apple directly, if it is a genuine fault I have always found the big names like Apple, Microsoft, and Logitech to be very quick to provide new replacements.

Cheers,

Nigel

Your experience of them is obviously not positive but to me it's very much a customer service issue rather than Scan trying to run some sort of scam.

While you're more than welcome to post your opinion of them both good and bad, misleading words like con and scam are not allowed unless it is done in accordance with the rules here.

I'm afraid I've had to edit the potentially libellous bits out of your post unless you wish to go through the process described in the rules.

If you'd like any clarification then by all means PM me.

Please note that if you have the AVF £75 promotion linked to your Scan account you won't be able to add the Hexus promotion to that account.

You will get an obscure message along the lines of "Can't find your Hexus registration details".

What you need to do is to create a second account with Scan and add the Hexus promotion to that. Works fine then.

Cheers,

Nigel

took one back about 8 week ago, showed them the fault that the light was leaking from the screen were it met the case.

Scan playing there usually palm people of games, they have made there money now over the years being the only parts shop in bolton.
i could write a massive list of returned items to scan... but i wont

i stopped doing this, because i was accused of making rubbish, because of *text removed by mod*

Hi Chris808

Following this dupe post made on HEXUS, here is the same response from myself....

Your order was placed on 8th Jun 2009:

Warranty of this item is with Apple directly, you returned the product to SCAN, which we returned to Apple on your behalf. Pasted below is the report received from Apple with the Apple repair ID.

Apple sees the reported issues as a " Perceived fault ". You can dispute the decision Apple has made, you will need to contact Apple with Repair ID number.

The other comments about SCAN and the staff, which work here are ridiculous, actually from the information I have, after the abuse and threats you made directly to our Returns staff, I'm surprised they spoke to you at all.

Best Regards

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm....
Surely according to the SOGA his contract is with the retailer, not the manufacturer, or does the law not apply to Scan.....

Sale of Goods Act 1979. Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982. Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1994. The Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002.
Key Facts:

• It is the seller, not the manufacturer, who is responsible if goods do not conform to contract.
