This caught my eye....

Quote:
Am I eligible?

Students in any level of education and their family members are eligible.
But.....the site looks little.....I don't know....Frontpage to me.

Does anyone know if this is genuine & legit?

Otherwise it looks like a (potentially) good buy.

[Edit] - I always thought (and I could easily be wrong) that theonly official way to get this discounted student software was with a .ac.uk (or similar) address?

According to that site:

Quote:

Software4Students: Am I Eligible?

The Key Facts About Eligibility.

1. All School, College and University students and their family members are eligible!

2. No Student ID required for Microsoft Software: As an Official Microsoft Partner, our offers extend beyond .ac.uk email address holders so that any family member or guardian can afford to buy on behalf of a pupil or student. Student ID required for Adobe Products, learn more.

3. You receive Full Professional version software at an academic price for lifetime use at home only.

4. Microsoft have linked to us from their site - because you may think this is too good to be true. Thousands of customers can confirm this is the real deal.
And there is indeed a link to them on the MS website: http://www.microsoft.com/uk/educatio...s/default.aspx

Re: Windows 7 ultimate upgrade for £59.00

Theres a big discussion on hotukdeals about this deal. Apparently they are legit and lots of people have used them. The "upgrade" also seems to be a full version that doesn't ask for any old vista of xp key to run. It can be booted and clean installed with just the key supplied. But you're still supposed to have a legit copy of XP or Vista to buy it.

I can confirm they are legit - I've used them before to get a very cheap deal on Microsoft Office Professional, and you don't need an ac.uk e-mail account. Very handy for parents with children still at school...

i think students version is only for £30, though you need to have a .ac.uk email address for it.

You will get a full Win 7 ultimate full install!

Re: Windows 7 ultimate upgrade for £59.00

It has been confirmed that this is a UPGRADE version. It will do a full install but if you install to a fresh drive and you try to activate it the activation will fail. You can however re-install it again over the top of the first install it will then activate. OK if you fancy installing twice

Some of the people on HUKD have received and tested this if you read through all the posts (which sadly I have).

There is an easier way, boot from disk, select custom install (to clean install) and then when you have the option to input your Key leave it blank and untick the activate online option. Once booted and everything is up and running then enter your code and activate online. Your copy should be fully functioning.

I have done this on three machines in the past 2 days with no probs.

Yes, I have heard reports of this but others on HUKD have tried this and it didn't work. There is a registry hack that does allow you to edit the registry, reboot and then enter the code which will activate it.

I just thought I would point out to potential purchasers the pitfalls that they may come across.

Re: Windows 7 ultimate upgrade for £59.00

According to the MS Student website, if you don't have an @ac.uk email address, you can also buy from the following:

Microsoft | ... discounted software for students and staff

The Basement

Windows 7 Pro is £32.66 at Pugh (not sure if there's delivery on top of that) and W7 Ultimate is £56.75 delivered.

Just noticed this.....

Quote:

Can I install the software on both my PC and notebook?

As indicated above, each piece of software bought can only be installed on one computer.

The exception is Microsoft.

You can install Microsoft software on up to 2 computers. E.g. one could be a desktop and the other on a portable device like a netbook.

Both should be for the exclusive use of the licence holder (the student!)
So that makes it £28.38 each for two copies!

Re: Windows 7 ultimate upgrade for £59.00

I think this only applies to office etc, i think OS's are 1 licence per machine. I have the student Win 7 Pro (through my Uni) and that is clearly stated in the licence conditions. But then again i have read elsewhere that people have been getting away with multiple installs. Maybe this will change with the first service pack arrival, who knows. I have the student Office 2007 and that definitely says that i can install it on 2 machines
