Nice find

If I get this, can I upgrade without losing all my files?

So would this be valid for academic staff with a valid .edu address like the Office ultimate deal? I can't see any further details with this one so guess I will need to wait until 1st October.

If you're academic staff, can't you get windows 7 through the home use program? (like I do - since the beginning of August - as technical staff at a UK educational institution....)

Im guessing that you should be able to. All that it says it requires is a valid uni/college email address.

No I think not, I believe in EU MS are not releasing an upgrade version, you need to do a fresh install. If your hard drive is already NTFS though you should be able to install into it without reformatting but you will have to reinstall all you programs etc. I'd buy a new hard drive, install to that and make old one a slave so you know you have everything.

I've done a dual boot with vista, so far no problems.

Is this the upgrade version or full retail? I've preordered the retail at £49.99 and am wondering whether to cancel it and do this as i start a masters this month....

Re: Get windows 7 for £30...if you're a student

this is a question that i want the answer to as well.

My partner is doing her MA in a few weeks and it would be great to get the pro version for £30.

i have already pre-orderd the home version for £45 and want to run it on my new PC which is running windows 7 beta (evaluation).

Now i do not have either xp or vista on this as i bought the PC without software. I have a brand new laptop which is eligible for windows 7 upgrade which i have sent off for and another laptop with vista on it so i do have a number of licences. what i want to do is get windows 7 on my new PC - so if its an upgrade what do i do to get the £30 windows pro on my new PC

Even better, if your department is part of the MSDNAA you can get it (and a whole load of other software) for free . Check here to see MSDNAA - Schools

Re: Get windows 7 for £30...if you're a student

Have ordered windows 7 pro. Is it possible to request the actual DVD ? as whilst purchasing i noticed i had to choose 32 bit or 64 bit, however i hope to upgrade PC to a 64 bit processor in the new year.

Or is this why its quite cheap because its done via downloading the OS ?

Thanks in advance

During the checkout you have the option of having a hard copy on DVD, cost another £7.83. I did the same with office 2007.

Re: Get windows 7 for £30...if you're a student

Need some help folks.

So your paying for the license Key right?

So I'll download the setup file and I could burn it on to the cd and use it whenever I reboot the PC but I have to install Windows XP first first, am I right?

What If we lose the License key, is it easy to get an replacement from Microsft or do take quite a while to give you one.

Thanks

Re: Get windows 7 for £30...if you're a student

Hi, i have pre-ordered Win 7 Pro, i take it they send you the key when they send the download link? Also i have Win 7 Pro on DVD already through my University, but want to install a copy on another machine i use to gain remote access to my Uni comp. I take it i can just use the DVD i have with the new key to install?

Regards

Tony

Look at post number 51 in the 'Windows 7 for students £30' in the Windows 7 section, computers, operating systems. There is a link taking you to windows 7 forums with a step by step guide on how to do this, works a treat.

Cheers, Tony
