Re: Netgear RND2000+Claim FREE 500gb HDD

Crikey that is cheap...I can't help but think that Netgear are about to retire the current Duo models and bring out a new one soon-ish, as many places have reduced the prices recently.

Regardless, I'm still thinking of getting a Synology (maybe Qnap) instead (DS109/TS109 or up) because they're faster/newer...then again you do pay for it.

Does anybody know how/if this would perform with a 4 bay DAS attached through USB?
Thanks

you dont get a choice no

you print off a form from their website (there are links across all the e-tailers that sell it with the offer) and fill it out(i had to do this twice), then you take the sticker from the box that states the serial no and everything of your product and stick it onto the form(again i had to do this twice). then you just send them off together to the address you are told (i sent them both separately) and about i week later i got both my drives (both came together)

Don't know, will check later and report back. Will be selling the 500gb drive on fleabay at some point as I've purchased 2 x 1tb drives (Seagate 1TB 7200RPM 32MB SATA ST31000528AS) which have been installed in the DUO.

EDIT: Just checked the drive I got, it's a Seagate 500Gb 7200RPM.12 16MB SATA ST3500418AS.

Re: Netgear RND2000+Claim FREE 500gb HDD

Has anyone bought this from Scan and successfully claimed the free drive ?

The reason I ask is that I didn't see them listed on the Netgear website for online retailers ?

Thanks Sniper - I will wait and see if there is any real world experience/responses to my post firts.

By the way, while I was on the Netgear site, I noticed that the free drive promotion has been extended from end July (which I seem to remember was the original end date) to end September

Re: Netgear RND2000+Claim FREE 500gb HDD

the Seagate 12 series are pretty damn good drives to be giving away IMO - they are near the top of most performance charts for SATA drives ....nothing wrong there (I run 6 of them in my readynas Pro)

for the cash you just cant go wrong with a Readynas duo for a 2 bay consumer NAS - sure they have been around a couple of years now, and back then were top the tree performance wise in the class, its only the later, more expensive NAS that offer more....but 20-30MB/s is not shabby at all, and more than enough for most consumers
