Smile Jkno's collection - from Transylvania

As you maybe know from my few posts here I'm from Transylvania Romania.

My Star Wars focus are Original Trilogy Imperials with minor exceptions, I also collect Terminator 1 & 2 Endoskeletons, Predator 1 & 2 and anime (mostly Masamune Shirow stuff - the creator of Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed).

My small collection

Life-size LAWS AT-AT Driver helmet and armor on custom bust. Chest-box comes with LED's that have 2 different lighting effects.

Terminator, Predator and Stargate SG-1 shelves - close-up:

My Master Replicas AT-AT Signature Edition #693/750 display. Added 4 custom made plaques autographed by Julian Glover (General Veers), Ian Liston (AT-AT Driver), Richard Bonehill (Snowtrooper) and Doug Robinson (Snowtrooper), plus a tall plaque with AT-AT info, next to the original plaque signed already by Phil Tippett (visual effects producer - stop motion animator for AT-AT's in ESB)

CD collection - there are about 1500 CD's, 99% original CD's (not bootlegs or CD-R) with ambient, electronic music, ethno, world, movie soundtracks, new age music, fusion, jazz and other related genres. They are from the times I worked at radio in 1998-2003. Example of artists and musicians I like: Vangelis, Jean Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Kraftwerk, Kitaro, Mike Oldfield, Enya, Sarah Brightman, Pink Floyd, Gheorghe Zamfir etc., to name just a few better known artists.

Thanks Viper!

I'm mostly a Star Wars collector because living in a former communist country before 1990 Star Wars was one of the few things that helped the children in Romania cope with the Soviet regime. I watched SW (ANH) and ESB in cinemas late 70's and early 80's, but Ceausescu (the communist leader) didn't allow ROTJ to be in cinema (the Emperor being thrown off his throne maybe was a signal for him LOL), and I watched it on a VHS tape at a friend. Star Wars was like a light beacon of freedom for me in my childhood. So that's why Star Wars is different for me compared to many other collectors, and also that is why I never got into too many other lines.

Thus coming from a country that was under communist rule for about 40 years, means that it was hard to get into collecting back then. Even after the communist regime fell (1990) it is still hard to get collectibles in Romania for the reasons enumerated below.

Why is hard to be a Romanian collector:

- very few people understand your hobby
- problems with paypal (they ask Eastern Europeans to open US Bank accounts or limit the amount of money one can send through paypal)
- problems with ebay (because of paypal)
- huge shipping quotes because of international transport costs
- 22% VAT tax (soon to be even 25%)
- customs charges
- problems with people thinking everyone from Eastern Europe is a thief
- foreign stores that don't ship to Romania (Star Wars Shop)
- no sci-fi or comic conventions (we can't even think of a Star Wars convention yet)
- no SW toys or rarely a few SW toys in local stores
- 99% of the trades/buying are happening outside the country

Thanks Inzaman! The Imperial Code Cylinders above are going to be displayed next to this bad boy. I'm also getting TIE hand gloves and Imperial logo patches for it.

Wow thats a seriously impressive collection you've got there jkno, I'm loving the pictures!

Your Stormtrooper armor also looks fantastic.

Intrestingly my parents live just around the corner from Shepperton Design Studios in Twickenham. When I was younger I would pass it on the way home from school and would often see all theses cool moulds of film props, though sadly not Starwars stuff. More reacently I've often admired the SW pieces in the window since they've had the shop.

A good friend of mine knowing I'm a Stormtrooper freak made me a nice present: an old and mint in box ugly Stormtrooper room alarm, which I love a lot. It is so much fun!!

with a collection theme like that I'm surprised you didn't catch the quote,

I'm not that great at film quotes but I can clearly hear vader saying it in my head, pretty sure it was to luke during their fight on bespin

made me smile when I read it

Since I'm not a native English speaker I missed it. I was thinking of some kind of price quote or something If there was only the Impressive line then I would have known what was it about. The "I hope you get that quote" text was confusing

"Obi Wan has taught you well"

I was going to add that.

But sense it would make not.
