HD across Cat5?

The SD signal to my 5080XD is fed through a RGB/scart connection. This is because all my sources are connected to an AV hub located elsewhere via cat5 sockets in each room.

This central hub houses all sources (Sky, DVD, etc.)

The cat5 cable is then connected to the Pio via the scart RGB.

The signal to the TV is via cat5. Scart/RGB is to connect to the TV from Cat5 only. If I want to add a HD source such as Sky HD or Blu ray to the hub, because of the way I am set up, any signal will be passed to the Pio via Cat5. Is there any adapter or connector that I can then use to reconvert the signal to HD at the output?

Hope this makes sense

Thanks.

Re: HD across Cat5?

I've seen units that transmit HDMI over Cat5 but it needs two Cat5 cables.

Re: HD across Cat5?

If you are not able to run two CAT5e then you can still run HD over a single CAT5e but this needs to be done via component.

Re: HD across Cat5?

Hello boota,
It is possible to run HD using a single CAT 5, but the goods cost around £300.00. Basically the units break the data into little chunks and pass it on the CAT 5. In this way i believe the HDCP gets dropped

Remember every problem has a solution, you just need to ask and have the money to pay for it.

Re: HD across Cat5?

Hello boota

I think we need to clarify what you are trying to achieve at each Output of your CAT5 network.

You can pass HD over Ethernet cables:

Analogue HD requires a single CAT5 cable (http://www.zektor.com/downloads/Solo...l_overview.pdf)

Digital HD is usually on two CAT5 cables (HDMI extender HDMI repeater. Extend HDMI DVI connection to 150ft) though it is possible to do it over a single CAT5 cable (+:+:+ RT COM USA +:+:+).

Your SD sources would need to be pre converted to Digital before they would work with the HDMI over Ethernet extender and the HD signals from the HDMI Output of the proposed BD and SKY HD wont work with your current set-up.

Best regards

Joe
