Keystones Jacks with Cat5e

Im currently in the process of running cat5 around the house, so that we can get rid of our homeplugs, which dont quite have the bandwidth we now need.

Ive purchased a few 20m cat5e rj45-rj45 leads, and run these from the attic down to the lounge. I've cut one end off each, so that I can connect them up to wall mounted sockets using keystone jacks. The RJ45 end just plugs straight into a switch in the attic.

Ive started in the lounge and connected up 2 keystone jacks, according to the 568B standard. All the RJ45s and patch leads being used are also 568B. I got the keystone jacks from B&Q in a kit, and they look ok to me...pretty standard. The plugger tool isnt the best, but it looks as though its doing the job of pushing the wires down correctly.

The problem I have is that after doing the job at least half a dozen times I simply cannot get the connection to work. I plug a device in and dont get any activity at all at the switch end. I've tried swapping the keystone jacks for new ones (the pack contained 4) and had the same issue.

I'm 100% certain I'm wiring it correctly, and I'm 100% certain I'm using B at both ends (the RJ45end and the keystone jack end).

When I rip the cables out of the keystone jack to start again, I do notice that it looks as though some of them are not severed... which I guess is how it makes contact. Owing to this I have really made an effort to push the wires in as much as possible, and I've watched a few videos on youtube just to be certain Im doing it correctly. both ends of each wire is touching the plastic when Im finished, which I guess means they should be severed in the middle by the metal bit.

Im at a loss as what to do next...has anyone come across this problem? Are they just cheap keystone jacks which arent cutting the wires or am I doing something stupid?

You had me thinking I was going to have to rethread (and rebuy) cable. I'll borrow a decent tool from work and see how it goes.
