Cat 5e - Octava HDMI over Cat 5/6 extender

Hi all

I've been advised by a cable supplier that Cat 6 is difficult to work with and terminate correctly. They said Cat 5e should supply close to the same speeds.

I'm planning on using an Octava HDMI over Cat extender. Will Cat 5e be sufficient over a 25 metre run? Obviously the Octava system uses 2xCat cables to send picture/sound.

Thanks

5e should be sufficient over a 25m run.

Re: Cat 5e - Octava HDMI over Cat 5/6 extender

Hello Bob1103

As more folk standardise on 1080p60/50/24 its gets more critical to ensure your category cables are up to the job.

We have plenty folk running CAT5e at 25m and longer without problems.

Of course 'up conversion' to Deep Color etc is sitting in the wings looking to push even higher bandwidth signals over your cables plus field/lab tests have shown that CAT6 is the absolute best way forward.

No matter if you use CAT5e or CAT6 you need to ensure you 'pull' the cable appropriately and do a good termination job - our install guys are constantly having to re-terminate poorly terminated CAT5/CAT5e cables in new builds.
