SkyHD to 2 rooms over Cat 5/6?

Hi all

I have my upgrade to Sky HD being installed this weekend, and I'm going to be piping it into another room using one of these
HDMI, IR over Ethernet cable extender. Transmit HDMI, I.R., and Digital Optical audio over CAT5e/6 Ethernet cable.

The run between rooms will be 25m, which will all be outdoors. So I'm quickly searching for a Cat6/5 external cable solution to get it all connected. Can anyone recommend anywhere to get it from? The Octava system recommends Cat 6 - will it make a difference?

Can i use normal RJ45 connectors to terminate the cables?
and lastly - would anyone advise ending with a faceplate? or can will this degrade the signal? Should I just run it to RJ45 connectors?

Any feedback on experiences with how create Cat5/6 cables and this kind of install will be appreciate as I'm new to this!

Thanks

Re: SkyHD to 2 rooms over Cat 5/6?

interesting bit of kit.
we've never found any problem with wiring cat5 outside, by the looks of the pics normal RJ45 are used to connect it.

only downside i can see is that it from the states so the 2.5v dc adapter wont come with a normal 13amp 3 pin plug and might be 110v, not 230v.

i'll be interested to know how you get on with it

in a domestic environment you won't see any noticeable difference using CAT 6 over standard CAT 5 cable with a regulation 'twisted pair' set up. In most cases you can use standard PVC jacket CAT 5 or CAT 5e cable outdoors without any problems.

Just be aware when you are routing the cable that if it is fully exposed to sunlight and weather it will degrade faster than a protected cable. Ideally you should run it within some containment such as PVC conduit.

you can use standard RJ45's on the cables
