Creative solution - How can I work within my current set-up???

Hi, I’d really value your advice.

I’ve just moved into a new place that is already cabled (to some degree) and I’m trying to plan what kit to buy.

Here is a very rough schematic of the set-up:

In short…

The aerial runs into the basement where it is split in three and run to rooms 1-3.

In the hallway cupboard, there are three CAT5e ports, which are run to rooms 1-3. Next to this in the hallway, there is also a single telephone line (only one in the house).

In a perfect world, I’d like to have Sky HD and Apple TV (or some other online video service - 4OD / BBC iPlayer etc) available in each room.

Is there a way I can do that with the set-up I have?

Can anyone advise me on how I would do this and what kit I would need?

Thanks kindly.

Jaimes

too many variables m8, the list of what you can do is endless, it's what you want to do and who else figures into the equation.
the single coax is a limiting factor for sky, possible even that the older cable might not be up to the job even for a sing lnb which would give you one feed to all rooms if you placed the box at the top end and control may be an issue
.
more detail on usage, budget and equipment at each location would bring more ideas

Re: Creative solution - How can I work within my current set-up???

Thanks for coming back so quickly.

Basically, I'd like to find the simplest solution to being able to watch SKY in all three rooms, without having three different sky boxes.

In a perfect world, I'd also like to have a computer or media server of sorts connected to the network, so that I can watch Apple TV or BBC iPlayer / 4OD etc on the different televisions.

I'd also like to be able to control the devices from each of the seperate rooms (change channels, select files etc)

I'm happy to spend what I need to... but don't want to get carried away.

Does that help narrow things at all?

Thanks,

Jaimes

Also, a second thought...

Is there a way around the single coaxial problem... can I use a splitter from the one cable... so two are connected to the box?

Hello jaimesl

Do you want to see SKY HD (or any other HD enabled source) as HD in each room or are you happy to live with a lower quality standard def version on some display's?

Re: Creative solution - How can I work within my current set-up???

Hi,

I'd like HD in one room as a minimum... if there is a fairly straighforward solution which would lower the quality to the other two rooms, I'd be happy with that.

Thanks.

If you are happy to stick with a lower quality signal in Rooms 2 and 3 (which is ideal for many folk) ask the Mods to shift this over to the Custom Install Forum - the Installer boys and girls will give you a heads up on the best RF Distribution amp to employ; our guys often use SLx but there may be better alternatives.

Joe

PS A simple test of quality/expectations would be to hook one of the TV's intended for Room 2 or 3 to RF2 on SKY HD and make sure you are happy with what you see.
