I'm planning on buying one of the Onkyo AV amps but have been told that if I want to run HDMI out to my TV via a HDMI over CAT5 balun, I may run into problems. Does anyone have any experience of this?

This should be in the HDMI cables and switches forum ,

But anyway , the key issues with HDMI are length , how far do you want to run the cable , Baluns work best over long distances , thats 10 m or more , they shouldn,t have any trouble if used correctly. Note that the cat5 cable running between the baluns cannot be used for anything else or be part of any other network that you might have , they would be used for this purpose only.

If the distance from amp to TV is less than 10m just use any HDMI cable.

In any case , as far as the amp is concerned , it will still behave like a hdmi connection and theres no reason for any issues.

I will need to run a simple HDMI cable from my amp to my projector, which will be 15m.

Your post suggests there may be an issue?

I was planning on an inexpensive cable, as the signal is after all digital and not analogue
