Strange PSU voltage readings

Hi all,

My system, briefly, comprises :

ASROCK Conroe 1333-DVI/H Mboard
Intel Core2Duo E6750 @ 2.66Ghz (Stock Cooler)
2GB DDR PC2-5300U RAM
GeForce 8800GS (Aftermarket Cooler)
1 x WD 640GB WD6400AAKS SATA HDD
1 x WD 500GB WD5000AAKS SATA HDD
Floppy Drive
Optiarc AD-5170A DVD RW

My PSU is a generic 500w unit.

Opsys is XP SP3

My system is running like a dream after a recent reinstall of XP - Super stable for apps and great framerates in games.

HOWEVER, I am getting some strange voltage readings from BOTH SpeedFan and Sisoft Sandra.

They are both reading the +12v line at 8.76v !

The BIOS HW Info screen shows it at the correct 12v

Any ideas folks? Surely the system wouldn't even be running if the voltage had dropped that much?

I think the key here is that your system is running fine.

Software voltage readings tend to be unreliable. I've used Speedfan to look at my Seasonic's 12+ rail and it reports it as 1.96v(!).

To accurately rate your voltages you'd have to use a multimeter. I believe Maplins, along with plenty of other places, sell them. I've never used one, but I'm sure someone on here has (maybe a search would bring up some results).
A quick search brings up this guide on another web-site.

But, yeah, if your system is super stable and games are running fine (which draw the most power) then I wouldn't worry about it.
