Alpine X100 and 300BT - making calls

I have just has this combination installed, and I cannot work out how to make calls from the headunit. The manual is fairly unhelpful as it only details how to do this from the touch screen headunits rather than the X100.

The phone connects to the 300BT automatically, but:

1. Whenever I press the 'phone button on the X100, 'updating' comes up on the screen and stays there indefinitely.

2. If I make a call using the mobile itself, it transfers fine to the headunit, but I cannot control it from there.

3. I cannot see the phonebook or previously dialled numbers on the headunit.

Can anyone advise on these issues?

Re: Alpine X100 and 300BT - making calls

Just as an update, I found this was due to the 300BT not being compatible with Blackberry handsets.

You can make and receive calls through the Alpine, but it will not download phonebook or call list information.

I have it set up with my other phone (SE880i) and it works fine.

For anyone thinking a buying the Alpine, it might be worth checking if your phone is compatible - generally standard phones will work, PDAs will not.

Re: Alpine X100 and 300BT - making calls

I am not quite sure why the Alpine phone support is so patchy. I moved to this unit from a Parrot RK8200, and that downloaded phonebook/missed calls/signal strength from every phone I tried.

Not complaining, though, as BT reliability from the Alpine seems great. The only slight problem I have is that it often sticks on 'updating' for a while when you first press the 'phone' button for the first time after restarting the unit.

yeh mines does that also it some times crashes meaning you have to swith the engine off and then back on to get it to work. Als a tip is after making or receiving a call when the screen goes back to your ipos screen you should press the phone button again so that it updates the data as if you dont and go to use the phone later on and press the phone button it tries to update and just sits for ages doing nothing and you cant make the call, but if you update after each call it will work fine.
