Kenwood 5220BT

Hi all,

I have had a Kenwood 5220BT installed and it is a fantastic unit. Unfortunately, I am running into a bit of block when it comes to uploading custom POIs (i.e. speed cameras) to the unit. Can anyone here tell me how I can do it and what I need?

Many thanks in advance,

Rob

You'll need Garmin's POI Loader utility to convert the POIs into a compatible format.

http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/

The way I did it, on an 8220BT (the same I imagine) was:
  1. Copy all the POIs I wanted to upload (in CSV format) to separate directory
  2. Insert an SD Card into the PC
  3. Start POI Loader and set the destination as a "Garmin Device"
  4. Select the drive letter used by the SD card as the target
  5. Select all the POIs to add and let the Express wizard run
  6. Then the data is added in the format required in the correct folder structure to the card
  7. With NAV running insert the SD card and it should copy the POIs and present a confirmation message
I did have an initial issue with the first SD card, said it was successful but nothing in the menu. Second card and attempt and worked fine.

Good luck!

Hi

I have had exactly the same problem with my DNX8220BT. I am using a 32mb mini-SD with an adapter. It recognises the card, tells me its loaded but there is nothing in the Custom POI's.

Can you tell me what your second card was that worked.

Thanks

Steve

Borrowed a 1Gb Sandisk SD card. Loaded it as before with POIloader. The unit detects a data card but when I try to load it I get a 'File Copy Error'.

Any ideas ??

you will have a bit of a issue here since the Kenwood DNX5220 doesn't have a SD card slot!

you will need the latest version of POILoader from Garmin to create the Poi.gpi file on your hard drive. then copy this file into a Garmin folder and burn a cdr like this Garmin\Poi.gpi

I had a DNX8220BT installed on Saturday and have tried to install traffic cam poi with a SD card. I insert the card and it says "loading", but does nothing else. If I leave the SD card inserted I can see all the traffic cams, but if I take out the card I lose them all. I rang Kenwood tech support today and they said it was a known error with some units and a firmware fix was coming out in a week or two. Bad news is that it has to be returned to Kenwood for the fix.

I have also been in contact with Kenwood and was told that I need a software fix that is coming shortly.

I didn't realise that I need to return the unit to Kenwood for this to be applied however.

Not great quality control from them with some units OK and some with this problem on such a new and expensive unit.
