In Car PC - 1 3/4 Din Ford Solutions

I thought I should widen my opinions/options (see other post)

My partner wants her car stereo upgrading in her 2001 Ford Puma, no problem, it's currently got a crappy sony in there with an adapter plate.

On the advice of some card audio shops I started looking at 1 Din head units with an adaptor plate that could do a great dock with her ipod in the glove box, seems a good solution.

However I thought I'd widen the net a bit and see if I could get her something a bit cooler - christmas is coming after all.

I'm wondering if there are any 1 and 3/4 head units out there (stupid ford unusual sizing) that would be multi-function, cd/radio/ipod/sat nav etc etc, or maybe even a in car PC all in 1 unit in 1 3/4 din.

The guys in the ford puma forum where all raving about this as a solution for the puma Azentek - Atlas CPC-1000 however it's 2 din so I have no idea how thats going to fit in.

What options either head unit for ipod, or a really good multi-function unit or even in car PC can you suggest for the rare and unusual sizing of 1 3/4 din socket ?

I know this is unusual, and I know I can hack the center console to bits, but thats not on the cards, I'm happy to throw some money at this, not happy to wreck the car as she loves it and it's not going anywhere because she loves it.

Re: In Car PC - 1 3/4 Din Ford Solutions

that is the norm yes, 1 or 2 din solutions, however, the Ford's of that year have an annoyingly random 1 and 3/4 din slot.

If it was a 2 din slot in the Ford Puma I'm looking it would be an easy 2 minute shopping trip, however this annoying size and a lack of willingness to remove the whole dash and gut the car makes this fact finding mission a little harder.

I've seen your suggestion in the other thread about the 1 din unit with a fold out screen, thad there certainly are options for this, however I'm trying to avoid it if possible due to how bulky the screen comes out and and randomly "sticks out" from the dash, I'm trying to get a tidy job done for her if possible.
