Re: Kenwood DNX-7200 2-Din Head Unit - where can i find reviews?

Hi all

I have had a DNX 7200 since they were launched in the UK.

I love its feature set and the speed of the interface - especially the iPod control - even on my 80G iPod its lightning fast. The Garmin satnav is great also, though i think its GUI is somewhat dated compared to some other models of satnav that have appeared in the last year or so.

My biggest complaint about the 7200 is on the GUI side - I think the main GUI is pretty ugly, regardless of which of the three skin choices is used, and it feels kludged together that the garmin satnav is a completely different GUI style to the rest of the unit.

Functionally I have very few complaints though. Voice control of the iPod would be nice, and a better blutooth module would be good also.

Has anyone with experience of the 7200 tried the 8220BT?
It looks like a fairly minimal upgrade - im almost certain it wouldnt be worth the upgrade price, even after selling the 7200. Thoughts?

Have any of you seen the Clarion MAX983HD? I'm going to start a separate thread about it...cant find much info on it but it looks really good.

Re: Kenwood DNX-7200 2-Din Head Unit - where can i find reviews?

Ok read the whole thread and got to the end, no prize for guessing why i am here!
Anyway guys i am also keen on a D-Din unit with sat-nav/bluetooth and integrated reverse camera option. My research/reviews revealed that DNX8120 is the HU i must have. While searching i came across this very informative thread and while the thread originally started for 7200 but has evolved to 8220. Does anyone knows the difference b/w DNX8120 and 8220?
cheers guys

Yep i suspected that, now anyone out here was brave enough to buy 8120? Secondly the patches (updating maps/firmware/POI etc) discussed here for 7200, assume applicable to 8120 as well?
I am tilting towards 8120, would be glade to hear from anyone who bought/installed the 8120!
cheers

Re: Kenwood DNX-7200 2-Din Head Unit - where can i find reviews?

I've had the DNX-7200 for a few months now and I'm generally very happy with it.

I just have a couple of issues. Firstly, the KCA-BT100 Bluetooth integration... I can't get it to synchronise with the phone book on my Nokia N95. Having done a little reading around, it would seem this is a known feature of this type of phone. Has anyone come up with a workaround?

Secondly, I know it sounds silly, but I can't get the unit to random play ALL tracks from a DVD. It only seems to random play the selected folder. One of the reasons I bought the unit was to be able to play mp3 files from DVD in a completely random manner, so I'm slightly frustrated to find out it doesn't seem to work. If anyone knows how to do this, I'm happy to be told I'm an idiot!!

Other than that... A great unit.

I have had 3 different phones (including the N95) and not one of them has been able to sync the address book.

Have you tried putting all the music in one folder. Then it would be shuffling everything.

Had this unit since feb this year and had no problems with the bluetooth/phonebook sync on my old N80 or my new N95 8gb.you have to manualy send your phone book as business cards to the head unit you can then dial by name or number from the headunit and the callers name and number is displayed when recieving a call.

If 8120 is USA and 8220 EU can a 8120 be used in Europe, which are the real differences or problems?

Thanks

Hi guys, may I know what sort of mini usb connector does DNX 7200 use?

These are the few types:
USB Cables - USB 2.0 Cables, mini USB Connector Cables, Extension Cables and adapters

Re: Kenwood DNX-7200 2-Din Head Unit - where can i find reviews?

Hi all,

Been busy reading this thread as I'm in the market for either a new double-din stereo like this or go for a Parrott i9200 for my '08 VW Jetta. This Kenwood unit sounds amazing and would be everything I'd need.

One thing concerns me and would stop me buying, that is security. Obviously the facia isn't removable, is there any other type of security deterrent? I've been broken in too many times to remember in my previous cars, and would be very sad to find my dash ripped apart and lose £800 - £900.

Re: Kenwood DNX-7200 2-Din Head Unit - where can i find reviews?

Hello, I just got a car with this head unit installed. I've been going crazy with the gps as it doesnt find satelites... then i noticed it needs some sort of antenna? Been looking around and found out I was right :/ And the owner doesnt answer me. So is there anyway to buy an antenna cause i dont find it on kenwood's home page?

And my second question is, can you use the ipod video via the usb or do you have to use the massive ipod adapter cable kit?

Thanks in advance

Re: Kenwood DNX-7200 2-Din Head Unit - where can i find reviews?

Hi,

You can buy a gps antenna from just about anywhere i think its a standard connection not sure but heres a link to one on ebay for you.

Kenwood DDX7029 DNX8220BT DNX7200 GPS Antenna Genuine on eBay, also Kenwood, CD Headunits MP3 Players, In-Car Entertainment GPS, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 16-Jan-09 09:39:32 GMT)

An answer to your second question to use the usb connection on its own it will act like a usb stick i.e. you will be able to play music files through a usb connection using the kenwoods usb interface which is a little clunky compared to the ipod lead and the ipod interface. Also you wont be able to play ipod videos without the ipod lead.

Hi to All!
Many thank's for usefull post here. Finaly I have connected my DNX-7200 to my laptop and updated the base map to v10. Only some little help needed
I have transfered my MapSource created routes to DNX-7200 via MapSource -> Transfere to device -> Route. But...

If it works the same way as my dnx8220bt then when you try to open it up, keep your finger on the button and it should move far enough for you to gain access to the sd card slot.

Hope that helps

Re: Kenwood DNX-7200 2-Din Head Unit - where can i find reviews?

Just to let every one know, this head unit works with large hard drives.

I brought a freecom 320gb toughdrive hard drive and works very well, even with 160gb of tunes on it.

dont take to long to read either, but i tend to listen to radio at first then switch over as reads as soon as you plug it in not when you switch to USB.

Does take forever to find a ablum you want though, but i just tend to flick though the whole disk and hear tune i havent heard in a while.

What would you look for to get the latest maps, is it City Navigator Europe 2010.1 or some more specific to the 7200?

I have the Kenwood DNX5220BT it has the City Navigator 2008 Europe NT map on it, I have recently bought a City Navigator 2009 Europe NT map from Ebay at £30 but not sure if this is the right map update, on the DVD sleave it says compatible units but nothing about Kenwood, It lists Street Pilot and Nuvi units but not sure which model is which.

any help.
