Thumbs up Re: Kd-avx2 Jvc

You can use the USA unit in EUROPEAN freq RADIO with no problem . Its in the menu for you to enable! :-)

Also DAB will not work on a US unit as it is designed for SIRIUS Satellite Radio.

I hope this helps

YOu can mount the "handbrake" cable on another cable ( one that powers by a switch ) I mounted mine ( turned the lights switch on ) and to any cable that takes power behind the console when lights switch is on! It works perfect while driving ot on stop ;-)

If that is the case, I shall be purchasing one in the very near future!

Re: Kd-avx2 Jvc

Very interested if it will play XVID's too... Anyone?

There's few info's about the new AVX line, but can somone tell me what to buy? AVX2 or AVX33? (Given the fact that my mobile doesn't have bluetooth...)
Here's what I found:
07USRegular_CES.pdf

The 5V pre-outs (except on the sub) seem nice after being gone on the AVX2 (but present on the AVX1...) and the USB is clearly a MUST (although I hope they dropped the (supposed) 4Gb limit of the DV6202), but what else is there to warrant a 450euro vs. 600euro difference?

Added:
(It bugs me VERY, VERY, VERY much (did I say it BUGS ME?) that the manufacturers sales price is $650 = 500 euro's with current exchangerate, and the mofo costs 700 to 800 euro's here!!! Best price I can get (supposedly a 'dealers entrance' to a German internetseller-site) is 600 euro's, still 100 more than an *MSP* for the Yanks.

(PS: to be hooked up to H400 + H1000 esprit)

Re: Kd-avx2 Jvc

Hi,

Just got my AVX2 installed and did as suggested in this thread to swap my red/yelllow AV cable connectors but I only got sound out of one speaker and no video. When I connect the cable to the same colours ie. red -> red, Yellow -> yellow etc I get both speakers but still no video just some static on the creen. The cable is from Apple. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Roberto.

Re: Kd-avx2 Jvc

@Hooky:

I am in the process of buying the USA-AVX33, but you mentioned the problem with DAB vs. Sirius. Is that a known fact (I would want DAB!)? Will your remote-trick also solve this? Are you willing to let your remote-control magic loose on an AVX33???
I want more info (e.g. if the stepping freq's can be adjusted like in the AVX2) before I buy, but 380 euro's vs. 600 euro's is a HUGE difference..... (Both best prices I found on this side and the other side of the pond)

A european...

I got 3 amps for my setup. 1 4-channel for front and rear, 1 very small amp for my centre and another one for my sub-woofer. I have initially bought the center speaker without the amp, resulting in the center speaker not producing any discernable sound.

I believe you may need a seperate amp for the center speaker as in my case, if you are not using the in-built amp on the HU. I don't want to use the in-built because of probable over heating issue.

Re: Kd-avx2 Jvc

avoy, i'm in san diego as well and stumbled upon this forum since i'm looking to upgrade my stock unit in my '06 4runner with a deck that could play divx
files.

i went to fry's electronics in san marcos last night and i can tell you that they had one on display there, but i didn't check if they had any in stock. the price for the unit was $399US.

as for the deck being able to play divx files, i brought along a dvd data disc containing several divx .avi files on it, inserted in into fry's display unit, and after a few seconds, the unit just ejected the disc without displaying any of the movies on the disc. so, it appears that the kd-avx2 does not play divx files (unless there's another way to play 'em). this is kind of a bummer since i wanted to find a deck that would play divx files.

what's strange is that divx.com shows on their website that the unit does play divx files. the link is

http://www.divx.com/products/hw/detail.php?p=362

fry's did have other decks like those from dual and other manufacturer that I never heard of. the dual deck couldn't play my divx dvd, but the other unit did but the video came out extremely blurry and blocky.

does anyone know if the US deck have to be unlocked or firmware-upgraded in order to play divx files? or does it NOT play divx at all?

as a side, does anyone have any information on the JVC kd-dv6200 unit? it too is listed on the divx.com site, but from my google searches, this unit and the kd-avx2 appears to be discontinued units (at least it's discontinued on crutchfield.com, but like i said i did see the kd-avx2 on display at fry's).

Question Re: Kd-avx2 Jvc

I am considering buying this HU but would also like to know what exactly I would need to setup a 5.1 speaker arrangement. I am completely new to cars and car audio so please be gentle!

After purchasing this HU what else do I need to buy?

a centre speaker for the dash
2 new front speakers
2 6x9s for rears?
1 sub for the boot.

do these speakers run directly from the HU or do I need some form of amps? Someone told me I would need a dedicated 5.1 amp which would be at least £400 - is this true?!?

hah thanks jixer, yeah i called them up there too, they told me they were out of stock. i put an order on the avx11 already from crutchfield.

http://www.jvc.com/press/index.jsp?item=566&pageID=1
i was considering the avx33, but i wasn't going to spend over 600$ on a deck.

i was wondering if anyone owns a avx11 already and if you can bypass the handbrake the same way.

You can get them at $500... (excluding taxes that might apply)

The unit has 4 internal amps. Front L+R and REAR L+R. For the sub and the centre you'd need both an amp and a speaker. My personal idea would be to go with an extra amp for the fronts and rears too, but that's me.
You DON"T need a dedicated 5.1 amp, for all channels (all 6 of them) have a pre-out that you can tweak independantly. And 400 pounds is a lot of money... Two simple 4 channel amps will already do the trick nicely. (e.g. a 4x60Wrms run as 2x60W front + 1x240W sub and a 4x30Wrms run as 2x30rear and 1x30W centre, not using the other 30W channel)

Since I don't own the unit, this is all from the PDF-manual...

Re: Kd-avx2 Jvc

Here's a link to people talking about the KD-AVX2 and the KD-AVX33.

It looks like Clarion also makes a similar divx-capable unit, according to the
thread.

Kd-avx33

Regarding the AVX33

I received the USA-manual and answers to my question from JVC USA and I downloaded the European manual (model is not present on German site, but manual IS... )

First results:
According to JVC-USA: the DAB-unit is a no-go on the USA version.
The radio can be made to use US or EU stepping (or even S.America!) (this function appears NOT to be present on the EU unit!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
"If purchased in the US the unit will use an NTSC video signal. Itwill not be compatible with a PAL color system" while the European manual says "PAL/NTSC".

If I cannot use it with my rear-passenger-screens, then it's no use... and I'm not going to buy a unit to use it for two weeks in the US only...

Alty,
I have my AVX2 installed in my Nissan Frontier with 1 4-channel Punch for FR, FL, RR, RL speakers. I have none for sub (I don't need it now, but will add later). And I have the Clarion SRK604 center speaker, which has built-in amp. However, I hooked it right and still don't get sound out of my center speaker. Would you let me know how yours turns out? One thing I didn't do was that when I was installing the power harness for my center speaker, I didn't unplug the main power from the HU.

Hooky, do you have any info on the center channel on JVC KD-AVX2? After I have it installed, I went to the speakers settings in the menu, the center channel doesn't show and I don't get the sound off from the center speaker.

Any advice from anyone would be appreciated.

Thanks,

First off: I might be wrong and there's something else wrong with it, but...these are complicated machines that you'll have several possibilities to influence the centre channel.
For one, you'll have to switch it ON in the speakersizesection (only have the AVX33 manual at hand (where the default setting is OFF!!!!!), but sure it's the same with the AVX2), or it will indeed not show up in your menu's. Also the setting for surround or stereo might influence it, or your dual-zone settings, etc.

Hi nlrela,

I'm very, very, very (did I mention VERY) interested in your findings, as I am contemplating buying the US version myself (333 euro's (US version) on ebay, new vs. 541 euro's (EU version) best offer in Germany), but I'm scared of the consequences.

I didn't even consider the RDS gimmick, since you can adjust it (according to US manual) to european settings, but I guess this is only for the frequency steps, nothing more...

I thought I could live with the region-code problem, since you can just buy a 100Gb HDD and convert all DVD's to DIVX's and put them on the HDD.

Could you please tell us everything that is *wrong* with the unit compared to an EU unit? Like, does Traffic Announcement work at all? Do you know if a KT-DB1000 will work or would you be willing to try one (if I buy one and if you happen to be located near me)? (Zuid Holland, Netherlands)

Thanks for your info!

Edit: got new offer for the EU unit AVX33. Anyone interested in getting it below 550 euro's INCLUDING shipping within the european union, send me a message. Got a price for 2 items, if we can get e.g. 5 orders together, they might send us each a unit to our homeaddresses for this price instead of me having to act as an inbetween (which I obviously have no intention of doing and want to avoid at all cost, as I am NOT a trader or a company!)
Price with DAB unit would be around 600!!!
Mailing me WILL NOT oblige you to buy (although I do ONLY want serious requests), it will merely give me leverage to try to get them to accept a 'group buy' (and the accompanying GROUP PRICE!!!!!) where they ship each unit to their respective buyers.
Pricingindication INCLUDING SHIPPING (no promisses!!!) : Finnland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Sweden-north, Spain, Tsjech republic: 545 + taxes where applicable
Rest: 535 + taxes where applicable
add 60 for DAB unit (without antenna, you'll have to pick up a DAB antenna yourself somewhere, they don't sell these!)

@ moderators: I am not trying to sell, buy trying enforce a group buy. If this is not according to your rules somehow, please edit this post and notify me of my wrongdoing.

If you do "rip" or copy your DVD with e.g. AnyDVD the problem of Code 1 or Code 2 will disappear (less work as converting the DVD's into Divx).

I have only installed the device yesterday, so I do not have that much experiences.... on the US unit the support for RDS / TPY / DAB is not available. Since RDS / TPY is missing, no station information will be shown on the screen (station name can only be entered manually). Also the traffic information will not be available, since you need TPY for that.
I am wondering as well whether the KT-DB1000 will work or not. In the menus there is no support for DAB indicated (in the US they have SAT radio). Nevertheless the DAB receiver has to be connected to the standard interface where you can also connect your Ipod or so. Don't know whether the "language" between these devices has been standardized or not.

I will only be in May in the Netherlands (Rotterdam) again, so that might be a little too late to test the KT-DB1000.....

Buying the EU-version would have been VEEERY interesting .... unfortunately I already do have the US-version

I do hope I have bought the unit before that, but Rotterdam is very close to home. If at all convenient, we might be able to perform a service to other readers to see if the DAB will work. (provided I bought the DAB-unit by then as well...)
But JVC-USA assured me it will NOT work, so let's not put too much effort into it.

Well, I found what I was looking for. The reason that I couldn't find the center channel speaker was that I had my DVD player played while I was doing the channel adjusted. The player has to be stopped in order to change the speaker sizes. Once the speaker sizes are changed, center channel was visible.
