i am looking for a sat nav that is for occasional use in the uk, however it also needs to work in america as well, i am fed up of hiring a sat nav over there and paying $15 a day. Any models would help, as it is only for occasional use i dont want it to be too expencive.

i have been told that the RAC models work in america as well as uk

any help appreciated

My TomTom 930 came with European and North American maps. I haven't used it in the US but it worked fine in Canada, as well as Germany and the UK.

You can also buy US maps for the cheaper TomTom units as long as you have a big enough SD card.

Nav units dont need to be "multi region" to work, they all use GPS and the same satellites. All you need is the maps. Buy a big SD card, they are cheap enough, then buy the maps for the country you are travelling to and it should work a treat. Most manufacturers have maps for the USA.
