Ford CD 6000 radio fault

Hello

I wonder if anyone can help with my 2005 Ford CD 6000 radio. The on/off button has stopped working and the radio will only come on intermittently, usually when going over a cattle grid or over a rough unmade road. Any help or advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Will

Hi,

I'm having intermittent faults with mine too - it has power but mostly sticks in the Phone mute mode.

In your case it sounds like a loose connection at the back.

If you're at all handy, buy a set of four removal keys off eBay for < £10 and get the unit out. Then re-seat all the cables at the back.

I'm debating whether to do that or treat myself to a new unit, probably the Alpine CDE-103BT so I can use my iPod and mobile phone in the car.

My local Ford dealer wanted to take it out and send it off, and charge me regadless of whether it can be fixed!

Yes I have removed the unit and re-seated the connector block. I still cannot turn it on and off with the button but at present it's on all the time. I think it has to be the on/off button that's faulty.

Oh, OK.

Unless you can fix it yourself somehow it's probably uneconomic to repair then.

You could get a replacement on eBay - loads there - or treat yourself to a new non-Ford unit .

I've got this problem also, but i cant find any information on what causes it or how to fix it.

Did you find a solution?

Thanks

I got a guy at Halfords to take it out an reseat it. It seemed to cure it for a while but is playing up again.

My theory now is that the battery is low - I don't drive the car very much and had to jump start it recently. The radio seems to come on after driving for a while.

Might get a new battery and see if that helps.

I removed the radio leads then replaced them. The radio is still on all the time so I've just turned the volume down until needed.

I think the main problem is a dry joint within the radio but whilst it still works I'm leaving well alone.

Follow up: I gave the car a good run over Christmas and the radio is currently working again. So, I think, in my case at least, the problem was due to poor battery voltage.

Im having problems with my 6000cd recently in my CMax switching to phone mode all the time even though I have no hands free kit in the car and as far as I can tell there has never been one (car previously belonged to a relative and he never had one) Its nothing to do with the button on the radio that has a picture of a phone, that just mutes the radio so you can talk. I have bought some keys to remove the radio from ebay and am struggling to get the radio out to have a look behind. Is there a knack to it? My fingers are red raw as I type this. The suggestion of it being due to a low battery is a good one as the car hasnt been far in this bad weather we are having.

There's definitely a knack - I watched the Halfords guy do it and even though he fits radios every day it took him a few minutes. Have a Google for tips and maybe even a video. Seems you have to get all keys aligned and pull simultaneously.

If you have a battery charger try that route first maybe?

If you end up changing radio don't go the Ford dealer route. For the price they charge to take it out and send it for assessment you could get yourself a nice CD/MP3/iPod enabled unit.

Thanks for the follow up - mine is behaving in a very similar way to yours.

I bought the car recently, so it hasn't been used much over the past few months. In the week prior to the radio fault, I hadn't driven it at all.

After a trip down the motorway, 40 miles or so, the radio came on and was fine for a few days. Then, as before, less car usage, and the fault re-occurred.Also, my air-con makes my engine revs drop immediately after starting, and sometimes dims the lights.

More recently there's been a clicking noise inside the cabin when i turn the lights on, or when the wipers go up - I'm not 100% but ive been told it could be a starter solenoid/alternator issue - not necessarily serious - but very much linked to a low voltage battery.

Pretty much everything hints at a low battery. I'll charge it tomorrow or this week and report back.

Thanks again for your feedback.
