hi i i'm looking to upgrade the speakers in the my peugoet 406 saloon as they are knackered but have afew questions. the head unit i have got is a pioneer DEH-4000UB which i mainly use to play mp3's. i'm looking for a good clear sound reproduction and don't care about the bass levels at all.

first off the rear are original peugoet 6X9 speakers that have a screw attached to the bottom of the speaker magnet which hangs down into the boot space. a plastic spindle type thing attaches to the screw and secures the speaker to the parcel shelf(i'll get some photo's soon). question is will i be able to buy a speaker that will let me to use the same method of fixing or will i have to get a drill on the parcel shelf?(would be nice not having to mess around).

second question the car has a 6 speaker system. tweeters in dash(pain to replace) door speakers 6.5inch i think and 6X9's in back. what speakers should i be putting in the doors? i think it would be a real pain replacing the tweeters so should i go for dual cones(i think they are called) in the doors and use the tweeters or fit coaxial speakers and then disconnect the tweeters in the dash? also if i the car has componets does the radio only send the required signals to each speaker? e.g. mid range to door, high to tweeter and bass to rear?

been looking at cheap new front speakers. any idea which i chould go for from 2 below? any other suggestions for about the same money, maybe abit more? also has anyone got an idea if my car (406 saloon) has built in crossovers to run the factory fitted front components that would need to be disabled somehow? cheers

No offence intended but if you want any kind of quality stay away from Fli, and Sony, just had both removed and replaced in my car, Fli make alot of noise but quality is rubbish, Sony are good at making some electronics but should stay away from making speakers!

have a look at kenwood or pioneer...

if your door speakers are not getting the highs as you say,you could opt for dual cone speakers,as the tweeter in the 2 way or 3 ways won't be getting the higher frequencies...

hi, so do you reckon go for components or just dual cones? i know components are best when amped but i have no idea how to do this and would be in risking screwing up mycar electrics if i tried lol. so would the sound be 'good enough' (abit open ended there i'm afraid lol) if i ran the components off the HU. also can you get componets that are seperate, as in the woofer and tweeters are not connected by a wire? reason is the cabling in the dash for the original tweeters could be reused and i could easily slot in the new tweeters. but how would i check if my car currently has crossovers(i think they are called) would these be in the current tweeter in the car. cheers for any inputs guys.
