hi, i have a spare subwoofer in the house and was wondering whether it can be connected to the car? if possible i wud rather do this than buy a new car subwoofer. if this is poosible cud someone tell me how ? thnx

You can't just plonk a HiFi subwoofer into a car because the car only provides 12 Volts DC and the HiFi subwoofer needs to be powered from a mains AC supply.

i assume your talking about an ACTIVE sub with built in amp ?

You would need to have a look at how much power the sub needs to run - then find a 12v to 240v inverter that will run it.

I would guess it will be cheaper to sell the hifi sub and buy a dedicated car sub+amp.

high powered inverters get expensive.

Whilst you could use an inverter, my Hifi subwoofer had "useless if dropped" written next to the "fragile" sticker on the side of the box that had my subwoofer in which was surrounded with 3 inches of protective insert.
I'm not sure how well the sub would cope with the rigours of being bolted inside a moving car and belting out bass whilst driving through pot holes.

Deano's idea of flogging it to buy a 'proper' car solution sounds good to me
