| Re: replacement head unit in peugeot/citroen
Some Citroens and Peugeots have a computer based system (its called BSI, dont know what it stands for) where all the control switches, ignition, accessory, radio, wipers, washers, lights, windows etc are all connected by a "network" back to a computer that takes care of control. The idea is that all the switches carry only a low current, and all the high power is taken care of by this computer. I tried to change the radio/cassette to a different make in my Berlingo. I had all sorts of control problems with it, and other parts of the car!! One effect was that after switching off the ignition and locking the car, the supply to the radio came back on 5 minutes later. Unlock the car, and the radio went off!! The BSI wires are coloured red/white and (I think) white in a pair twisted together. They do go to the radio, as well as everywhere else. Be very careful not to put any voltage (12v) on either of them, or you will blow the BSI computer! Very expensive!! I gave up in the end and went back to the Citroen unit. So if you really want to change from the standard item, do what ianoliver says and find an independant car audio specialist. First, ask about this BSI, if he says "never heard of it", walk out and find another that knows all about it.
