How long until GPS signal attained?

Recently bought a Tom Tom One.

It generally takes anywhere between 5 to 15 minutes of driving before it springs into life with a GPS signal.

Is this normal?

PS apols if this is a common question.

Re: How long until GPS signal attained?

My GO has a signal by the time it's booted up, maybe a problem with your hardware.

Re: How long until GPS signal attained?

Have you updated it through TomTom home ??

TomToms normally aquire signal fairly quickly, do you have a heated windscreen ?? As I'm sure this can cause a slight delay, but mine was always fine in my C-max.

Re: How long until GPS signal attained?

Latest firmware all updated via Tom Tom, not a heated windscreen, I think it's a problem with the hardware.

i think I'll try a Garmin next.

Re: How long until GPS signal attained?

I have the same problem sometimes.
Latest everything installed, but it's just crap.

Best bet is to grab hold of it and stick it out of the window.

Er, probably not while you're driving though (ahem )

It's absolute pants. I can stand in the middle of my garden and is just sits there no GPS signal.

I'm returning it, i think I've got a duffer.

I too have a TomTom that can take ages to acquire the satellites, so got a Garmin and it works as soon as it's switched on.

Cheers,

Martin.

I think there is something wrong with your unit, rather than TT in general. I have a TT 920 and it takes only a few seconds to acquire a signal. There are some things you can do to help:

Don't drive off until you have a sat lock
Keep the sat ephemeral data up to date via HOME
Turn it on where you turned it off

But using the ephemeral data, even if I turn off my unti in Germany and turn it back on again in Florida (which I do regularly) it takes less than 30 seconds to get a lock.
