Tom Tom Go550 question

The new Tom Tom go 550 is out today which looks good, but I have a question about it which seems too diffficult for TomTom customer support to answer so I thought i'd try here instead.

The Go550 has built in rds-tmc, does this mean that if you don't want to pay for the monthly 'live' traffic at £8/month, you'll still get traffic updates via the RDS-TMC?

TomTom support have been rediculously incompetant at answering this question so you're my last resort!

Thanks in advance

Re: Tom Tom Go550 question

From what I've just seen it's built into the dock that comes with the x50 series so it has to be docked in that to work.

But if that's the case then yes it's free

I use one of the TMC receivers on my 720 and it's good, it's not updated constantly so it will sometimes report problems that have dispersed but overall it's been a lifesaver a few times now!

Not sure what these new ones will perform like but mine finds it a struggle to lock onto a signal in a built up area with lots of buildings and houses - as soon as you're on a bypass or something it locks on pretty quickly

I've got the Navcore 9 loaded onto mine and it's good, paired with the IQ Routes technology it's useful stuff, and quite a few times has auto routed me around traffic problems.

Re: Tom Tom Go550 question

Hi, If you take a look at this page TomTom, portable GPS car navigation systems

from what I can see I would say in the UK the RDS-TMC is free and I would assume if built into the unit then you don't need the add on they provide as it looks like it's included in the box

Re: Tom Tom Go550 question

It is free but is no match for HD Traffic - that's well impressive.

You can demo out their data at Route Planner - the best route, maps and traffic info from TomTom
