JVC KD-AVX77 advice? (buying a U.S. model)

I have been looking at ordering an AVX77 from the USA for use in the UK. (as it is alot cheaper than UK prices)

I'm aware that the region code will be different, but I have seen threads related to unlocking the region codes on these units. Has anyone been successful with this?

Also, is there any other disadvantages of using a US model in the UK? (radio etc...)

This is not true! The radio will work over here. There are some differences between the US and UK model and I get people asking to unlock them all the time. As far as I know not many if anyone else can currently unlock them. If I were you I'd buy a UK version. One thing that is different is you get no RDS for the radio function on a US version and I'm not sure you could connect a DAB adapter if you so wished later as the US version runs on Sirius not DAB.

You may also have issues if the unit fails. Although JVC offer a warranty on the product it is a US Warranty and they could refuse to carry out repairs under the terms of the warranty in the UK. Not saying they would but its something to consider. Plus I hate buying online when it comes to expensive things like this as you dont really know who you are dealing with. Saving a few pennies now may end up costing you more in the long run.

My advice is to buy from a local specialist and get the service and backup support you pay for.

Make the right choice

As you can see people trying to unlock the region are still having problems in this thread as well. Plus you need a universal remote by the looks of it. Worth spending the money on one just to unlock one car stereo?

I think not...

If it worked then yes i suppose it would be worth it, but it seems like it doesn't so I won't be bothering.
