Retro headunit advice

I have a classic mini 1977 with an original dealer fit radio.

I plan to show this car in the future so i dont want to remove the unit but i would like a more modern sound specifically FM and IPOD amps and subs etc.

i have stealth speakers worked out and i can put an amp under the back seat.

What im after is either a discrete remote control head unit that i can put under a seat or somewhere but still control it from the front of the car. sort of like a bluetouch but i think that needs a head unit.

Got a few hundred to spend. Cant afford the Becker Mexico Classic type of money.

Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Retro headunit advice

you could look into this;

Parrot UK - iPhone car kit, iPod speakers - Accessories for iPod & iPhone

How you would wire it to your exisiting stereo I don't know. but if you took it to an installer, they might be able to figure it out.

Re: Retro headunit advice

The parrot MKi kit contains its own decent quality amp and mute interface so it will wire into any stereo at all, even vintage stuff, a friend has one on the original blaupunkt in his 70s porsche, youll just need to chop off the isos and hardwire it. put the control knob in a discreet location or mount it on velcro and youve got ipod control, decent sound, and if you get a new style ipod youve got fm too, or if you have an iphone internet radio.
For a sub if your after tight punchy but discreet bass I can thouroughly recommend an underseat sub wired in after the parrot kit using the high level inputs. Not as deep as a 10 or 12"er but sound good anyway. I need every inch of my boot so I`ve got a £35 one from a end of line offer at halfords that still sounds ok but the alpine version sounds great.
Good luck with that bud, I love seeing classics freshened up with modern tech, My last project was fitting mappable closed loop programmable dual fuel petrol and lpg injection to a 1968 3.0 v6 transit pickup.
