Garmin Nuvi 205 or Tomtom One IQ ?

Hi all and thanks for having a look.

I am in desperate need of a new SatNav. Budget is tight as well.

My brief research has provided me with above mentioned two Units.
Nuvi 205 because I have used it before and its very easy to use + no cost to update the map or the firmware etc.
One IQ because of its features.

What do you recommend ?

The other thing, I am made to believe is Tomtom units require subscriptions to carry out general functions, like notify Speed Cameras, update maps, update firmware. I am very concerned about the after purchase subscriptions. I would not like to get in situation where I have to make payments to be able to use unit when I have paid to do certain function.

Can you pls help me.

Many thanks in advance.

Re: Garmin Nuvi 205 or Tomtom One IQ ?

They are both very good units to be fair mate although the Nuvi 205 is last years model so has slightly older maps.

Both manufacturers allow you to download their latest software applications completely free of charge, so don't worry there.

With regards to map updates, you have to pay for both of them (garmin may do an introductory 2months free or something on promo). Same goes for the speed camera database too I'm afraid. Although iirc it is about £20 annually.

Hope that helps.
