| Acer P630 and CoPilot updating
Hi all, hoping someone here may be able to help me. I just bought a second hand Sat Nav - an Acer P630 which is windows CE 5.0 powered and pre loaded with CoPilot 6 Premium.
When you turn on the unit it's a normal sat nav main menu screen (a la TomTom etc) and there is no ability to access the 'windows' side of it.
I just downloaded CoPilot 8 and copied the files onto a new SD card so that the unit would be fully updated but I can't seem to get it to work? When I insert my new SD card with copilot 8 on it and then go to "Navigation" from the device menu it says "Unable to open CoPilot. Please make sure the storage card is inserted or that the data has been properly downloaded".
I've therefore managed to change the registry of the device which allows me to access the 'windows' side of things and used file explorer to find the normal 'autorun.exe' file in the new download on the new SD card but it gives an error message, which prevents it from working.
I've also gone to the 'add/remove' programs from the control panel in the device but it doesn't show any software or anything to be removed?
I've contacted Acer support and their response was: "Dear Andrew ,
Thank you for contacting Acer.
I’ll be happy to assist you, however your product is out of warranty. so i would request you to contact our premium support number at 0906 706 8000 as this is a software issue, or else you can also contact Copilot software manufacturer for further assistance.
Respectfully,
Acer
Online Technical Support" I don't really want to ring a premium number as I would imagine it'll take about 10 minutes trying to explain what the problem is and still haven't had a response from ALK (the CoPilot software company) so am getting a little frustrated.
I consider myself okay with computers, but not enough to go into the command prompt of the device and start fiddling with stuff like that...
Anyone any ideas? Is it just not possible maybe?
Thanks so much in advance, really appreciated |
