Garmin nuvi 265W or 265WT? What do I Actually Have!?

I have just purchased a Garmin nuvi 265WT and have been unable to activate the free lifetime Live Traffic Avoidance feature of this unit. I have plugged in the extra aerial lead to the GTM 25 charger/FM receiver unit and still no traffic avoidance icon!

Not sure if this is somehow connected to this fault, but, I have noticed that the product box that the unit came in is clearly printed as a 265WT, but the name on the actual unit itself (next to the serial no) reads 265W, without the ‘T’. Also in the About screen it shows the unit as a nuvi 265W, with no ‘T’.

My concern is whether the unit has been miss-packaged in the factory? E.g. a 265W unit in a 265WT box? The only other possibility is that Garmin code the 265 units as “265W”. but then print the box as “265WT” because it includes the GTM 25 in the box?

Anyone have a 265WT that can confirm whether the box printing and the unit coding should be the same e.g. 265WT on the box and 265WT on the unit itself?

Many thanks

I had a 205wt and had the same issues. The garmin tmc is aweful, I think it worked once in a few months. That's why I ditched it and got the navigon, which works superbly. If I were you I'd get your money back and get something that works.

Thanks mrash

Can you remember if your 205WT unit actually said 205WT next to its serial number label? Mine says 265W, but on its packing box it says 265WT. Has this unit been mis-packaged.
OR
Does plugging a GTM25 Charger/FM Receiver cable unit into a 265W unit then turn it into a 265WT or does the 256 unit have to be specifically manufactured/programmed to provide the traffic avoidance feature??

This is the problem:

> In the Traffic Provider screen, if you press [Search] the blue bar starts moving left to right ‘Searching for FM Traffic Providers’ and continues to do this indefinitely and never finds anything! I have tried holding the unit outside the car – with the GTM25 Charger/FM Receiver cable unit plugged in, in a good reception area and still no joy! <

Re: Garmin nuvi 265W or 265WT? What do I Actually Have!?

It is actually the reciever that makes it a "T", so the unit was a 205W, and the reciever is the part incorporated into the charger. This package is then the 205WT. The software/hardware for recieving traffic on the garmin is next to useless. Take my advice, and get a navigon
