Question MyGuide MG4228WE & iGO8 - TMC Hardware?

Hi,

I have the MyGuide MG4228WE, with iGO8 installed. There is a port on the rear for a TMC aerial, but it does not come boxed with the aerial.

The port looks pretty standard, and I'm sure there must be other SatNav's out there that use a similiar piece of hardware.

TomTom is no good as it uses mini-USB, and Garmin is also useless, as they incorporate the TMC aerial in the windsheild mount.

Question: does anyone else have one of these, and if so, have they located a TMC aerial from anywhere in the UK?

Tomtom also uses a 3.5mm jack plug. Part number is 4V00.013

I don't disagree, but the MyGuide doesn't have a 3.5mm port.

I've looked into this further, and it appears to require an aerial with a MMCX (micro-miniature coaxial) connector. I plan to pop into Maplin and see if they have anything that fits... then I'll order one online for about a fifth of the price Maplin charge.

Any luck?

Sorry about raising an old thread, but did you (or anyone else for that matter) have any luck with getting TMC working on a 4228WE? I have the same running IGo 8.3 so would be interested in hearing what I need to get TMC up and running.

Thanks,
Matt

Post Missed a trick with TMC...

I never did get the TMC working, although to be fair, I kind of forgot about it completely.

I found the correct connection device (MMCX) on eBay, saved it to my watched list, then plain forgot to buy it. Now the seller doesn't have these anymore, and I can't find it again.

Someone else PM'd me and asked how to get the IGo software to work in widescreen. You need to access the SYS.TXT file using your PC/laptop, and make the following changes:

[rawdisplay]
screen_x=320
screen_y=240

Save the file, and export to the SD card (overwrite old file).

Hope this helps.

There is a seller in China who has them on fleabay but at £15 at bit steep, mine was a 2.5mm type and he had it.Search for TMC aerials on fleabay.

BTW do you have to have a aerial connected if your unit has TMC receiver on board??

Post TMC Aerial

"BTW do you have to have a aerial connected if your unit has TMC receiver on board"...

Apparently yes. There are no options to turn on TMC, so I assume that it will work when it detects an aerial. At least, there is no mention of subscription required, so it's anyone's guess if it will actually work with an aerial connected.

15 GBP is very steep indeed. The one I was watching was less than 3 GBP.
