Car Stereo *THAT WORKS* with SD card Slot under £150 - do they exist?

..because all the ones I`ve seen just seem so badly implemented..

Last one I spotted was the Pioneer DEH P4100SD - £129 - I thought..bargain.

But no - it doesn`t even support ID3 tag browsing. I mean, come on!

Does anyone have a sub-£150 head unit that supports SDHC cards, which they are pleased with??

With such a specific requirement, the replies to this may be limited.

Youre kidding, right? I know there are several head units with a SD card slot in this price range - Im finding it very difficult to find much user feedback on any of them, hence the post.

With digital music fast becoming the norm, I don`t get why this feature isn`t on every head unit now!

Maybe they're just a bit slow in catching up - or consumer demand isn't enough yet.

As an example - I've had and fitted quite a few HU's, along with speakers, sub's and amp's etc. I listen to digital music and have my iPod in my car.

When buying HU's i have never looked for a SD card feature in them

I guess the satanic Ipod is one of the reasons we don`t have a truly generic, affordable solution to putting your digital music in your car.

Never mind, It will come in time.

In the mean time.... if anyone DOES have something they can recommned, I`d love to hear about it

Re: Car Stereo *THAT WORKS* with SD card Slot under £150 - do they exist?

I think a lot have gone down the USB route. That way they can hook up to an iPod (with adaptor), any other USB mp3 player, many phones, pen drives, hard drives and most memory sticks via a USB adaptor. Quite a bit more flexibility from a single connection, covering more bases and more likely to please more people. Fitting an SD card slot means you can only really plug in, errrm, well an SD card. Unless you happen to also own a camera that takes SD or maybe a phone that has a micro SD slot, the chances are you won't have many SD card floating around the house. Even then I never take the micro SD card out of my phone, just use the USB socket on the bottom, far less hassle than popping the back off (Nokia 6300).

Is there a specific reason you favour SD over USB?

I prefer SD cards because they don`t stick out of the head unit like a USB Stick will. I get the feeling its going to get knocked, and it just looks like a bit of a fudge.

I guess USB may be a last resort, if manufacturers stick their heels in and only go down the USB route.

Still seems a bit silly to me though, especially considering the environment were talking about (running a USB cable from your dashboard to a phone or Ipod in a car is a bit of a lash up IMHO -but clearly others dont agree)

I can run a USB off mine as it has the adaptor at the rear. I just ran a USB extension lead into the glove box and hey presto.

It gives me the best off all worlds really - USB - iPod - BlueTooth Audio - CD etc.

Because all the connections are done at the rear there's nothing on show, and i love it

Yep, ditto, my HU has the USB lead coming out of the back. Admittedly it only seems to models higher up the product lines that have the USB connection at the back.

I do agree with you about the USB socket on the front though, it is definitely a bit messy. I'm sure I also read somewhere about EU regs preventing sticky out bits on the dash for safety...

Re: Car Stereo *THAT WORKS* with SD card Slot under £150 - do they exist?

Hi, i've been looking into this and came up with the Clarion FB289RBT. Although i didn't buy one in the end it has recieved some great reviews.
It doesn't have a cd deck at all, just radio and sd card player, it does however have bluetooth built in for mobile phone connection to make recieve calls or stream music etc.
Well worth a look at £99 plus delivery if you shop around.
Only reason i didn't get one was because i got offered a nearly new Sonichi dvd, cd, mp3, sd player cheap.
Good luck.....jamie.
