dv cable

newbie!

transfering mini dv tapes from sony handycam to panasonic drm-ez27 dvd recorder. Not interested in editing tapes.

bought a cheap 4pin to 4pin cable from fleabay (£2.50), connected from "dv out" on camera to "dv in" on recorder, it won't work (improper signal).

borrowed another cable, it worked.

Replacement cable arrived from fleabay, it won't work!
have i just been unlucky and got 2 duff cables/cheap quality? or have i ordered the wrong cable?
Have read 4 pin used to connect camera to pc, will it also connect camera to dvd recorder?
Are all 4 pin to 4 pin cables the same?

Also, when i tried to copy finished dvd on laptop with "ashampoo" it won't read it, copied it with "imageburn", one dvd worked fully, the other only copied the first chapter even though there is more chapters on dvd? "dvdshrink" showed all chapters on one dvd but could not see any on the other. Is this to do with file structure the panasonic writes?

It may well be
You could simply copy the video ts folder and use Nero and see f this creates a " standard" DVD video

Re: dv cable

a decent firewire cable should be under £10 and it is a good idea to keep it to 1.8m in length (or less). Something like This for around £5 should be ideal.

Mark.
