Thanks: Gave 1, Got 1 | AVCHD editing software choices
I am looking for peoples opinions on avchd editing software, I am at the moment looking at enw programs for editing and before I begin on my next big project I would like the right one.
I am thinking about Premiere Elements 7 or Pro CS4 or Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 or Pro 8 mainly but would also think about others.
Does anyone have any recommendations, I wont be doing any major effects it will most be simplycuts transitions and title effects with the odd slo mo bit and pip.
I would like good perfomance and exporting wise i want to be able to author a sd dvd for playback on normal dvd players but also to export as avchd file to stick on an external hdd and play through ps3 (saving on encoding and re-encoding time which is why I want native avchd editing).

I use Premiere Pro CS4, find it very fast to use
I first used to use Vegas but I don't find it as quick or easy

I've not tried Premiere yet, quite fancy giving it a go soon though but i can recommend Vegas. Either MSP or Pro.
I use Vegas pro 8c all the time now on my PC for AVCHD.
Ive found that Vegas runs faster and seems to run smoother than some other editing programs.
Vegas will not output AVCHD without re encoding though if thats what you are looking for but will output AVCHD quite quickly, depending on your PC and how many FX etc you have used.

Don't think you can export edited AVCHD from CS4 without re-encoding

Im sure all editing software will reuire re-encoding of certain parts where changes have been made but I just want to make the process as simple as possible but need the functions I require. I have been using Prem El 4 until recently but have upgraded the PC so didnt know if now would be a good time to upgrade the software too.
I wondered if there were many major differences between them?
Also my camcorder captures 5.1 audio so I need to be able to work with that even at the very least to keep it and output it at the other end.

I THINK Pinnacle Studio 12 is supposed to only render footage that has been edited like cross fades etc.
Ive not used it as i found studio 11 to be quite slow compared to Vegas but it might be worth downloading a demo to see if it fits the bill.

I tried 12 not good.
Now I've got Corel moviefactory 7 trial, really simple to use, they own Ulead which I used to use ulead moviefactory and it was very good, so fingers crossed.

Yeah, studio 12 offers a lot but i just didnt get on with it. It seems very slow compared to all the Sony stuff.
I tried Prem CS4 last night but it kept crashing under windows 7. It looked pretty complicated (in a good way though).
