New sony wide angle lens backward compatible with TGR3E?

Does anyone know if the new sony wide angle lens for HDR-TG7VE is backward compatible with TGR3E?

VCL-HGE07TB (VCLHGE07TB) : Accessories and headphones : Sony

Also, there's quite a hefty price difference betwixt new and old models-apart from GPS on the new HDR-TG7VE (£850 ish)-why wouldn't people pay under half that for the TG3E-is there any great difference between models?

Regards.

Not sure about the lens, but the front looks the same, so it might work, but you raise a good point about the price differential. I guess the onboard 16G memory and GPS has some affect on the price increase, but it does seem steep. (and it hasn't got 5.1 surround, which works surprisingly well on the TG3. ) However, the TG3 price came down soon after launch, as I guess the new one will also, at some point.

Thats what i thought, the front of both cameras look exactly the same and i'm in the market for a new camcorder. The new price tag seems steep but i did forget about the extra memory.

Even so, it does seem a bit steep (especially as they've nobbled the sound).

Do you remember how much the TGR3E was when it came out, by chance?

Re: New sony wide angle lens backward compatible with TGR3E?

Sony's retail on their site for the TG3 is 579 which I believe hasn't changed much from the release date, and for the TG7 is 850, but you could get a TG3 for much less than that online of course, a few months after launch. I got mine when it was first released from the BT shop, but their price has gone up a bit now. If you don't need GPS, I would go for the TG3, and get a 16G Pro Duo Mark 2 card ( and a spare battery ! )

Re: New sony wide angle lens backward compatible with TGR3E?

Thanks,

I really don't need GPS. I guess there will be some good deals in the next few weeks, what with the new model coming out. I shall keep my eye out.

Cheers.

Re: New sony wide angle lens backward compatible with TGR3E?

Found it now selling for £645 at Stoneaudio.co.uk which is about £200 cheaper than Sony. However I seem to remember reading a review of the HDR-TG7VE that it would be coming with a wide angle lens and memory card. I take it that this isn't the case anymore?

Re: New sony wide angle lens backward compatible with TGR3E?

No, the lens is a separate item (£100 I think).

It does come with 16 GB memory this time as opposed to 4GB that the TG3E had.

Reading the specs, the new camera is thinner, so i imagine a sliding lens cover will be to thin for older model. What a bummer! You'd think they'd accommodate all the early adopters and throw them a line. Never mind....
