Sony TG3 Editing Program

Hi
I`m new to video cameras. I`m just wanting to know the best software to use to edit my films.
I have a Blu ray ps3 and a HD tv.
I dont think my computer is blu ray though. Will I be able to store HD videos on my harddrive?
My computer is a Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo 3gb ram 250gb hard drive. Its got Nvidia geforce 8400m gs Graphics. Is this good enough to edit hd videos?
I need all the help I can get
Thanks Stu

Yes: You can play off an ext HDD to the PS3 if formatted to FAT 32

Probably not , although this is software dependent too
A Quad core would be handy.. or an i7 when they get more affordable
There are a few threads abouts on AVCHD editing and hardware considered suitable

Have a little browse the suggested threads and see what you come up with

If you have the cam and the footage, why don't you download a 30day free trial of a program like Ulead Video Studio 11/12 and see if it works for you on your present system, it depends on what level of editing you want to do, if it's really heavy then you'll need a good processor.

Another trick is to convert AVCHD to HDV (easier to edit) This can be done within Video Studio and will play on a PSP albiet with larger file sizes

I would also recommend an external HDD for all your video files as they'll soon eat up space on your main HDD

Re: Sony TG3 Editing Program

Don't know what level you want to go to with the editing but for example, i can edit a full HD clip recorded on my TG3 with Sony's PMB and i would typically cut out a chunk of the clip. PMB would create the edited file within about 20 seconds (roughly).

I was pleasantly surprised at how quick it produced the shortened file compared to what i have heard.

That is all the editing i do so i can't help for any more advanced stuff. I work on a 2.2ghz P8400 centrino 2 CPU / 4gig ram.

Re: Sony TG3 Editing Program

Providing it isn't 2 hours in 1 or 2 clips you should be ok.

It takes easily less than 1 minute to cut up and process a 6 min clip (roughly); prob less than 30sec. To give you an idea.

If you can playback your TG3 full HD clips on your laptop without freezing or choppyness than you should be absolutely fine to do some basic editing.

Re: Sony TG3 Editing Program

I've not tried this yet, but am I right in thinking that the 'burn straight to disc' button on the TG3's docking station would create a SD format (mpeg2), not HD?
I would have thought that Sony could have provided the option of creating an AVCHD format disc. It seems strange that the supplied software does not have the capability of writing the high quality HD footage on the memory stick to DVD.

Re: Sony TG3 Editing Program

I`ve not tried the burn now on the docking station.
I`m not entirely sure how it works

Don't know about that, but I did succesfully burn a AVCHD disc after importing the files into the picture browser application. I'm happy now I can archive my footage in HD format. Plays ok on my PS3 too.
