Canon hg20 resolution problem?

Hii everyone,

I have a problem with my canon hg20 camcorder.
I connect it to my hdtv(sony kdlv3000) with hdmi cable and my tv shows 1080i resolution.

This resolution should be 1080p instead of 1080i?

Thank you for your help.

Re: Canon hg20 resolution problem?

The HG20 records 1080i video, so the reported input setting is correct. Anyway, there's no perceptible difference between 1080i and 1080p on a television set designed to play interlaced video. Most of the 1080p hype is just that.

Re: Canon hg20 resolution problem?

Andrew, thank you very much for your fast response.

Actually, I'm suprised to this because I read hg20 records full hd in amazon.com's production description pages before I bought it.

whatever I'am happy my camcorder hasn't any problem

Re: Canon hg20 resolution problem?

Well, "full HD" is a marketing term that really doesn't mean much more than the fact that the equipment produces 1080 lines vertically, as opposed to the 720 lines of many first generation HD devices. All consumer HD camcorders record 1080i. The Canons (yours included) do have progressive shooting modes, however. But even then the video is contained in an interlaced container for playback.

Pleased to hear you're not too worried: the HG20 is a nice camcorder.
