Sony Mini DV DCR-HC18e - camera light flashes when power is off

Hi, I'm a newbie, hope someone can help me.

I returned my camera to Sony over a year ago to fix a fault that had been reported - distored image etc - this was done free of charge.

I now have another problem. When I switch the camera to the off position, the 'camera' green light flashes and drains the battery. I have purchased another battery, thinking the original one might be faulty, but it still does the same. I can't seem to charge the battery now.

Additionally, when the camera is on, and I want to record, i need to press the record button on the lcd screen. If i press the button beside the on/off switch, then the camera switches to play/edit mode.

Do you think this has anything to do with the repair Sony did, or is this wear and tear? Although the camera is a number of years old, it only ever surfaces for birthdays, holidays etc.

I'm just trying to weigh up whether I should get Sony to repair, or if i'd be better buying a new one.

thanks in advance

Julie
