memory card file size limits

Bit of an odd one.

A friend told me that if using a memory card camcorder SD or MS, there is a maximum file size of about 400MB.

So even if you have a 16GB card you could only record in file sizes of 400MB a time. Hence the need to stop and start often.

Is this true?

Re: memory card file size limits

SDHC cards are formatted FAT32, making the maximum file size approximately 4GB, which is usually about 30 minutes' worth of recording at highest quality on a high definition camcorder, much more on a standard definition one. There wouldn't be many occasions in normal use where the 4GB limit would hamper anyone's shooting style.

Re: memory card file size limits

ah 4GB seems much better than 400MB. As yo say even in high def that should be fine.

Might take the plunge now then rather than wait for SDXC, which said friend told me to do
