Sony tg3e archieving,HELP!

Hi ,hope you guys can help me.
I'am going on holiday tonight and i'am trying to find a way of saving my hd footage from the memory card and transfering it to dvd. There's not enough space left on my hardrive!
Would it be possible to save it in such a way as to be able to keep a full hd copy to edit later and also be able to create a sd dvd for family, from this dvd? I have created a AVCHD disc but not sure if possible to edit from this.I've also created a data disc but can't get the pc to recoginse it.Can/do i have to transfer the avchd disc back onto the memory card through the camcorder to edit it?
I have left until the last minute and i'am running out of time and idea's ,i'am sure its covered in the forum somewhere.
Can anyone point me in the right direction ,please?
Many thanks Kevin.
