Question Camcorder for a model aircraft

Hi there;

I've been trying to find an hd camcorder in a suitable shape for mounting on a model aircraft. Aldi have a sunday special for this camcorder, but I've been trying to find one that has a horizontal design rather than vertical ... or some kind of design that'll lie flat on the wing rather than sticking up.

There is a specially designed model camera out there and it's here, but with the rise in hd I'm trying to find one for the job. I don't want to spend too much on it since it could be destroyed in a crash (fingers crossed ), although so far the only damage I've had was a daft labrador putting it's paw through the wing (the dog wasn't flying).

The aldi camera is great, but tough to mount with the vertical design and would probably get knocked off by tyranical seagulls who really hate my glider. I could mount it sideways, but vertical widescreen seems a bit pointless. It is also probably the max (guessed) weight I'd want to attach. Model is a 2m sailplane with an all-up-weight of 1.3kg. It's flown up to 1.6kg in the past.

Many thanks. I hope someoue out there can help.

Graeme

Re: Camcorder for a model aircraft

Hi,

I also fly model planes and use a flycamone version 2. It is great and gives surprisingly good results (you can see some of my videos and still photos from it on my website in my signature below). I too have been after a HD version. But as you know weight is critical. I only fly relatively small (circa 1m wingspan) models. The flycamone only weighs about 38grams so doesn't make a huge difference.

The Aldi one you link to looks interesting, but I wonder how much it weighs?

Best of luck, and let me know how you get on if you get one.
