Conversion to DV software help

[I recently purchased a PYRO A/V LINK API-557 to help me with editing stuff from my camcorder. If it is possible, I would also like to edit other files existing on my PC (MKV and AVI). If I can convert them to DV avi then the editing part will be easy. Would I be ok with getting any type of file converter(If it includes mkv and avi to dv)? Is there converters out there that can do this in one step? Does the dv file have to have a specific codec in order to be edited and displayed to the TV from the PC? Thanks in advance!
