best camera for video journalism?

I am posting this on behalf of my other half - fab posts on here - so would like some expert advice pls if you have a mo!

He has a budget of £1500-£2k
The camera is required for video journalism.
His shortlisted camera of 1 is the Sony Hdv Hdr-fx7e

Is this a good choice or should he consider anything else?

Also has anyone used Provison Direct recently? (they have a good price) - I found the reviews here from 2008 which were ok but just thought I'd double check!

Thanks and cheers!

If he can get one still they are no longer made at that price it would be a good choice, i have one ,the only thing against it is the lens is more on the telephoto side, ie good for long shots and its wide angle not as wide as some but a WA converter would cure this.

Re: best camera for video journalism?

thanks for your reply Chris - however he has now read something that indicates that the Cannon HV20 might be a better choice as it has better sound (which would be very important) and less of a problem with camera shake?

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks.

He is very much mistaken the canon is a consumer cam the sony prosumer with better sound and far more on cam controls, they are different machines the canon a good consumer cam but it cant match the fx-7 which for tape has good resolution, but with an external mike the canon may well do what he requires.

No the XA1 Is a semi pro cam it is very big larger than the fx-7 with more sound options but i would not swap my fx-7 for one as its larger than i would want.
