40 gig of footage,how long?

As above,i have approx 40 gig of family holiday footage on my sony dcr-sr75 that i need to copy to dvd and distribute to three seperate parties(in-laws, and the like). Now I have nero 9 which i've used to copy two dvd's of the same material(4.5gig) and it looks good with menus etc,but the discs took over three hours each! Now if my calculations are correct(and it's not rocket science),three copies of each 4gig of footage is going to take 9 hours and times that by ten for the total ammount of footage, then thats going to be over 90 hours of hard-going for my pc!
My question is this,is this par for the course or can i simplify the menu structure and recording time?I just want dvd's that are going to look half decent and play in virtually any thing you put them in(apart from the toaster).I'm not up on this editing malarkey so any help would be greatly appreciated.By the way,i've lost my copy of motion picture browser!cheers

Just make one copy of each DVD to start with. Then use Nero to make a copy of the DVD's which should only take a few minutes per DVD.
3 hours is not too long to convert the video to MPEG-2 and burn to a DVD, especially if you have a fairly old PC. You could try stopping all background programmes such as antivirus & firewall etc to see if this speeds things up a bit (but make sure you are disconnected from the internet first!).

True
Another thing you can do to make it even faster is to create Iso or " nrg" images of the disc on your PCs HDD ( this is how I archive DVDs ect) Burning a copy off that is much faster and easier. Only the creation of the initial DVD video need ake any time .
