Post Sony TG3 Advice

Hi everyone
I'm thinking of buying a Sony TG3 Camcorder and need some advice.
At the moment all I have is a cheap Panasonic Tape Camcorder. To record onto a DVD I just plug the cable from the Camcorder into my DVD Recorder(Not Blu Ray) and just record.
Is there an easy way to just copy the recording to my PC
then burn to a DVD to play on any DVD player.
Is there any special software I need or does that come with the Camcorder.
Does a cable come with the Camcorder or do I have to buy it separately.
Thanks for any advice
Graham

There is a long TG3 thread ( or 2)
Have a read
With the TG3 transfer of material to PC is by USB. Easy either from the camcorder or stand alone Memory card reader
Software does come with the camcorder but most folk soon go out and get something better
It comes with a USB cable
It also comes with an AV cable with which you can record to standard DVD via a settop recorder albeit in Standard Def , as you wouold with youe Panasonic tape model
Which is this " cheap panasonic model, then?

Re: Sony TG3 Advice

Thanks for your reply.
My cheap Panasonic is an NVGS37B
When we go away I take photos and my other half films.
She doesn't like the Panasonic as it is bulky and takes
too long to start up. By the time it is turned on and ready to film, the moment has been missed
Can you recommend a good software that is not too expensive.
Thanks again
Graham

Re: Sony TG3 Advice

Software.. for the TG3 or the Panasonic?
Did you see
Camcorder and video editing Frequently Asked Questions ??
Ulead VS 11.5, Corel X2,
Sony Vegas MS Platinum 9
They have trial versions
Cyberlink Power Producer,( usualu part of Cyberlinks suite) Roxio 2009 creator ( videowave) are others
A few more are
Adobe Premire Elements ( for TG3 you need ver 7)
Pinnacle Studio 12

This list is not exhaustive as Magix also makes software ..

They all have Pros and cons, prices are similar,
All have a learning curve , some very gentle some a bit more steep and Hardware requirements vary as does the " how you get on with them"

AVCHD from the TG3 needs a decent PC..!

Picture Motion Browser(PMB), the program supplied with the cam can create AVCHD DVD or SD DVD and also backup the files to a data DVD, it's very basic, but IMO highly usefull, and it does the job, forby simple trim/cuts to the clips there are no other editing options
So unless you wish to make more sophisticated DVD's PMB should do

This is true
What is also true is that Sony will not replace the disc if you lose it so make a backup..
Many who started with it, then had say a system reinstall , then couldn't find the disc ended up getting other software as a result
