£200 Budget

Hi all
We are thinking of getting some kind of camcorder, mainly for filming the baby. As much as I'm quite in to photography, I have never, ever, used a camcorder and know diddly squat about them!

I would like something that can film in HD and have a budget of around £200 so am not after anything top end. If it is worth getting something which isn't HD then I will certainly consider it - have just seen some that are HD and the picture looks great.

Any advice and recommendations would be much appreciated!

Also, what software do people use for some basic video editing - on the PC.

Re: £200 Budget

just read a few posts in this form and want to add a few things....

Am not fussed about portability so it being tiny is not essential
I am not entirely set on HD although it will be output to my TV which is HD
I would also like to output online
I will probably write the videos to DVD - can this be done in HD? This is where I get a bit confused!

I'd start here: Digital Camera & Camcorder Classifieds - AVForums.com

See what's for sale and look for reviews!

Why would anyone be unwilling to give it..
The idea of pointing you to other threads is to see what has been covered before which may be relevant to you,in order to make your query very tailor made for you, instead of simply rehashing stuff
Realistically you wont get Hi def for that budget

On the premise of now going for Standard Def, you have a choice of Tape, SD card or HDD drive,
for £200, Only tpae will offer half decent video qality in a new model.. hence the second had suggestions
However there are end of line or ex-demo " new " models which may do it for you
The idea is for you to do some research, name some models then let folk comment on them

I would suggset te Canon FS100 ( slightl above your budget) as a starting point. As for editng software, they abound.. What you use depends on your budget, and level of simplicity/complexity.. there are a few faves.
