Question AVCHD Codec and editing.

Hello guys, fantastic site you have here, you were recommended to me by civictyper.co.uk!

It's not a problem I have (yet) it's more some advice before I start installing allsorts of software that isn't going to do the job I want it too.

Basically I have a Canon HF10 HD Camcorder and it's AVCHD (MTS) file types are not recognised by Windows Vista in their current state. I want ONE programme that will read, play and edit this file type. Is this possible?

I have just picked up a new Dell laptop with 320g HDD 2.4 Dual Core with 4g of memory, I pressume this is cable of editing AVCHD?

Any links to downloads of trials or something of the sort would be fantastic, thanks in advance.

Mike.

Re: AVCHD Codec and editing.

I have Nero 9, which comes with Nero Vision for editing, coding etc, and Nero Showtime for playback of AVCHD files natively

Nero Vision can output the files to virtually any format you want

It is easy to use, and I don't have any problems with it

The whole suite has all the programs listed below

Burning ROM (Burning CD, DVD, BluRay)
Vision (Edit, compile, recode video)
Showtime (Play virtually all video/audio files)
CoverDesigner (Create covers for cases and discs)
PhotoSnap (View, edit photos, pictures)
Recode (similar to DVD Shrink)
SoundTrax (Mixing audio)
Wave Editor (Edit, record audio files)
Rescue Agent (Recover lost files)
Live (similar to Windows Media Centre)

Nero full list here

Surely the burner would have come with software; Cyberlinks is one
Ulead/ Corel X2 or MF6+ are fine, up to a point
Some folk like the Folder burning option from Vegas Pro ( 8)
I think. Adobe Encore CS4 is the Adobe option
The bugbear seems to be the Menu support most of them ( seem to lack)
