two camcorders -no sound

Hi all
I have a panasonic mini dv camcorder and recorded some film on it but when i came to play it back on tv with the supplied av connector cable got a picture and no sound so used the av cable which came with portable dvd player and which i know is ok and fits the camera, still the same.

I thought the camcorder was broken so bought another from amazon and still the same problem.no sound from tv, it's ok on the lcd screen .

my tv is a philips 37PF7531D/10 and the camera is sony
DCR-HC27E

Please help ,what am i doing wrong.

Has nobody any idea how to solve this. i have seen the same problem on other sites so i assume it's common but have yet to find a solution.

How EXACTLY are you connecting the camcorder to the tv?
