Re: Help! Sony MHS-PM1 Webbie HD

Hi, these have just come out in the UK. I saw one at Heathrow airport (in the Sony shop) today.

I like the look of them, but they are c. £250 on Amazon.

B&H (US) are selling them for US$169, even after you pay the shipping they are much cheaper than the UK. To answer your original question, the B&H websiite quotes:
"TV System - Switchable NTSC/PAL"

My only problem is the plug for the charger as the battery can't be charged in the actual camera via USB. Battery needs to be removed and inserted in to charger.

Nice little unit though...

Re: Help! Sony MHS-PM1 Webbie HD

Correction to my post above, Sony UK have told me that the cameras I was looking at in Heathrow were just a demo and they are not yet available to the UK...

I swear there was a price on the stand.

Re: Help! Sony MHS-PM1 Webbie HD

Quick update on this...

I ordered one of these cameras from:

Bite Size Deals - Sony MHSPM1/D Webbie HD MP4 and 5MP all-in-one Camera (Orange)

They are a US website despite the .co.uk address.
Service was good and the £165 price included shipping to the UK. They even threw in a plug adapter so I could plug the charger in to UK sockets. When I ordered it I hadn't noticed that they were US based so I was a bit dissapointed when I realised I was going to have to wait a while longer to receive the camera.

The camera is switchable between PAL & NTSC, but I haven't yet tried outputting to a TV. The quality of the video is great on my laptop, it is very easy to use and lightweight and convenient to carry around with you. One thing I hadn't thought about was the fact that it doesn't have a flash, so you're a bit restricted when taking still shots indoors.

The camera can also be used as a web cam, I've not worked out how to do this yet, but that's due to my technical incompetence.

Overall, I like it.

Re: Help! Sony MHS-PM1 Webbie HD

Had a bit of a result on this camera.

When I received it I registered it on the Sony website. A couple of days later I received an email from Sony asking if I'd take part in some market research as the product has not yet been fully released in the UK.

Went along last night (Hamersmith, so not far out of my way), took a couple of hours, got fed and watered and walked away with £100 + a Sony digital photo frame worth about £80...
