Canon HF 100 class 4 or 6 SD card?

Can you use class 4 SD cards with the HF 100 of do you need to use class 6?

What are the disadvantages of using the class 4 against the class 6, picture quality or is it just download time?

The search function is your friend here: after "Which camcorder should I buy?" and "Why, oh WHY, did I buy [name product here] from Simply Electronics?" this must be the most asked question in this forum.

Check the operating manual. Class 4 should be fine. Class 6 won't give you better image quality, but transfer times to and from your computer will be a little snappier.

Andrew.

Re: Canon HF 100 class 4 or 6 SD card?

The class refers to the transfer speed of data to and from the card. Class 6 is faster. I have been using Transcend cards in my HF100 for 6 months no problems, these cards are class 6. They are cheap I just bought a new 16GB one for £22 on amazon and this will give you around 2hrs of vid on the highest quality. Pay a little extra and you can get one with a small card reader.

Andrew thanks for the reply.

Your opening comment seems to be somewhat perceptive as (no don't do it I hear you all say) Simply Electronics are doing the the HF 100 at the moment for £400, which is clearly a very good price.

I am very tempted to place an order with them, but as you highlight in the link there is a wealth of reasons to avoid them?
